First Lines...

As borrowed from china_shop - List the first lines of your last five or ten stories or so and then analyse them on the basis of "would they pull *me* in as a reader?"

Very interesting, but stupid! )

That is a really excellent point about endings. Endings and titles; they are what I truly *suck* at, unless I start out with them already in mind or I strike lucky. Lately I've been a lot more careful about my writing--what am I really trying to accomplish with this piece, and does it work? I think that's helped a bit with the ending lines, if not necessarily the titles issue.

just because I'm amused by the idea of a quarterly facial

Yeah, me too. ;)

If you get the ending wrong, you sour the entire thing. If the first couple of lines suck, no one will read the story. Really, you can make errors in the middle and that's it. And even then, someone will peg you for inconsistency. BAH.

Appropos of nothing - did I ever mention how much I loved you for calling a story 'Some People I Know Think That I'm Crazy'?

Because, for some reason, it really evokes my youth in Australia. The song, that is.

For the record - your beginnings always drag me in. I think 'Oooh, Lozfic. I shall open that in a spare tab and read it later' and then I think 'reading the first couple of lines won't hurt' and then BAM! I'm reading the whole fic.

Note: this is not a bad thing. :D

Not the going around killing people, then? Adelaide is the murder capital of the world, don'tchaknow?

"Most People I Know (Think that I'm Crazy)" is one of my very favourite songs. Good to yell to. Did you know the Gary Sweet version too? Or just Billy Thorpe?

Good thing I mostly write short fiction, otherwise you'd be there a while.

The Billy Thorpe version would be the one I know. I had no idea Gary Sweet had done a version. The mind, she boggles!

For which I praise the Gods! ;)
