grad school rotation #3

Mar 18, 2007 13:29

monthly update.
My new rotation in the Jasper lab is going well. I've learned a lot of new techniques: Immunostaining, Co-Immunoprecipitation, Western-blots, cell culture, fly husbandry, basic fly genetics, confocal microscopy and lots more.

I still haven't decided where I want to stay. I think I don't want to make a decision, because when I finally make up my mind...that lab may not accept me. So by making a decision I'm vulnerable to rejection. Oh well. I still have a few weeks to think before I have to meet with the PIs of the labs I'm considering.

I have a 4000 word essay due tomorrow about MAP Kinase Signaling in the Yeast Mating Pheromone Response. I have 1500 words, so 2500 more to go. Each word is more painful than the last. Everytime I have a breakthrough and type a sentence I click the recount button to get my new word total.

I can't wait for spring, so I can start running outside again. I miss the fresh air and, as cheesy/cliche as it sounds, the feeling of being free. I need a distraction from pressures of school and life, and I need alone time where I can focus on myself and nothing else.
bah, apologies for the boring update. i need to get back to work.
