[So it's been a month that Hermione hasn't really come out of her room aside from school and eating. But it's been obvious that she's been preoccupied with something this entire time. However, when asked she's simply brushed it off as nothing. Or she's working on a spell. Or something similar. But she wouldn't give a straight answer and waved off

[Tonks is in the building right next door, and besides, once she's done moping about Remus being gone you know she won't be spending a lot of time alone in there. So here she is!]

What are you up to now, Hermione?

[loyalotter]

[Hermione glances up at the sound of that familiar voice and smiles.]

I think I've discovered a way to help everyone protect themselves. Care to come inside to see? I don't want to risk the wrong people seeing it before I can properly figure it out.

[auror_dora]

Oh, you know I have to see this. [That was not a question you even needed to ask, Hermione.]

[loyalotter]

[She grins and leads the way inside to the kitchen, quickly clearing a space where she can properly do this thing.]

Okay. I need you to hold your wand like you would if you were casting.

[And she places hers well out of the way so it's clear she's not even using hers right now.]

[Tonks raises both eyebrows, but also raises her wand.]

All right, I see a demonstration is in order. I hope you know what you're doing.

[loyalotter]

I've been working on it all month! [She sounds excited, but when she gets down to it, she's focused and calm. Don't worry, Tonks. She knows what she's doing.

[She brings up one hand, focusing quite hard on the wind magic. The hand movement is exactly the same and she even gives the incantation, though it's not entirely necessary. Saying it just makes it a little easier for her to cast. There's a small burst of wind originating from her hand and shooting towards Tonks, but it's controlled. Very controlled. If Hermione's got this perfect, that wand in Tonks' hand is going to go shooting out, just like the wind was channeled through her grip, loosening it just enough to allow the wand to follow through and out.]

I haven't quite perfected getting the wind to carry the wand back to the caster, but it's a start!

[Tonks blinks, surprised, then Accio's her wand back.]

That's brilliant. Not many witches and wizards can do wandless magic, and I've never seen anything like that before. Been learning from those spirits?

Thanks! I have! I'm up to wind, fire, and healing now. I've been attempting to learn light, but Hyt is difficult to contact. What I'm hoping is that with this new breakthrough, we can help more people defend themselves. It's not as easy as our Disarming Charm, but it's a start. I was working on a wind-based Levitation Charm, as well, but that was more difficult than the Disarming Charm. Of course, any other element we want to use will have to be learned very carefully, especially fire. I haven't tried anything with it yet because it's so dangerous. There aren't enough open spaces here. I'd have to go to the mountains.
