Dampskees....
I just hard an ultra-hard move that spanned many days.
June 29th Friday
Pick up U-haul. Move 95% of items to Mama, my awesome mother-in-law's house.
Go to Odd-Friday(SM) and have fun.
Feel good.
We move into Mama's for a the next few days.
June 30th Saturday
Clean
Move the remaining 5% which takes the same amount of time as the day before.
Feel crummy.
July 1st Sunday
Start separating stuff for shipping and going in the car.
Back starts to hurt.
July 2nd Monday
Back hurts.
Shoot skeet.
July 3rd Tuesday
Some work.
Ship stuff.
Pack car.
Start driving away with Z, one of my four cool-as-heskiis brother-in-laws.
We stop at Fort Stockton after many hours of driving.
The cost of the hotel is the most expensive because of the renewed oil industry in Texas.
We do not sleep that well.
July 4th Wednesday
We start in Fort Stockton, Texas and drive through El Paso, Texas.
It is overcast and 70 degrees -- Quite odd for Texas.
West Texas is awesome.
If anyone says otherwise, punch them with brass (Zn+Cu) knuckles.
We shoot up north to Socorro so we can travel on highway 60 towards the VLA.
We stop at the VLA and have no fun! It is excellent.
A thunderstorm comes close to us.
While traveling on 60 in the high desert ponderosa forest we are pelted with cold rain.
We hold out our hands until we can no longer take it.
It is hot while we drive.
We stop in Flagstaff for dinner and I see something on TV that makes me angry.
I'll tell you about it in a few weeks.
We see fireworks from Williams, AZ.
Some clump of trees is caught on fire and Z and I argue about 911 and cops/pigs.
My friend is a Sheriff and works corrections for Travis County.
He started off as a right-wing nut-job, but after seeing the dregs of society he has become surprisingly open-minded:
"I do really like the idea of people being gay, but if they want to do it in their own house there is there own issue." I tell him that it is not really conservative to think that way. If you are a real reactionary, you would want to break down the doors and punish the sinners. It might be mild, but it's better than how he was 10 years ago.
We drive on to Needles, California where it is 101 at night.
We stop in Bakersfield, CA and sleep only four off-n-on hours.
We missed most of the hot weather.
July 5th
We wake up and rush to the Bay Area.
GB is kind to take my car keys. We are going to leave the car and two of my bikes with him. We'll be in the Bay Area in two weeks to party. Who want to see us?
We check the storage place in Freemont. They are open until 1930.
We drive to Mountain View to get the U-Haul.
I have to call my credit card to allow the charge.
I have to call my insurance to see if they will cover the U-Haul. They do not. Time to pay more money.
We drive over to AG to see the mystery company.
We have pearl tee and he buys the coach.
I am unable to argue about it.
I pocket the cash and think of the strippers I can patronize with this.
We drive to Freemont and pack up the stuff.
The place is closing when we leave.
I drive Z to SF so we can go to the Tornado with AG and other former PayPal folks.
I find a spot for a 14' U-Haul on Divisidero and Haight.
We walk five blocks, eat sausage.
Z drinks a few beers.
I have a sip.
It is my turn to drive.
We start driving again and take our cocktail of caffeine.
After a mere 250 miles we start to die.
It is about 0200 and we need to stop.
We stop in some nondescript town in Northern California prior to Redding and we sleep the sleep of the dead.
July 6th
We drive to Corvallis, OR arriving at 1900.
Driving a U-Haul through 300-400 miles of Mountains is quite fun.
We see Shasta and I play some Vienna Tang.
Oregon is nice.
We find the cool town of Oakland that Smums and I found many years ago.
We unpack the U-Haul and collapse.
July 7th
I attend a retreat for the cohousing community that we will move to soon.
I fall asleep on a thin carpeted concrete floor for an hour.
I am really tired today.
We check out the site.
July 8th
After okay sleep, I drive Z to PDX where he will fly to AUS in the U-Haul.
The traffic sucks.
Some dude lost his bikes from his roof on the highway.
I stop the truck knowing that we have 10' of crumple behind us.
Some dude cleans it off the highway.
I get him to the airport 35 minutes prior to departure.
You must be checked-in no less than 30 minutes.
Z makes his flight.
I drive the U-Haul to drop off.
It takes a long time.
I have to buy gas.
The place is closed and I leave the padlock on back!
I drop it off and run to the Greyhound station some 2 miles away.
I make it in time for the Portland -> Corvallis bus.
It takes 2.5 hours and I sit next to a obese female teen who SMSs privately while I do the same.
I send notes of love to my honey.
I arrive in Corvallis and we look for a place to eat.
Many places are closed.
We go home and a fall asleep and sleep really well.
July 9th
I wake up to find out that Susie and Xavier are sick.
Susie has little energy.
After about six hours she can leave the bed.
I go run errands and shoot skeet.
I start doing work late, but I am tired as a used cow.
