Sakura Con 2012: Swag Edition

Jun 04, 2012 02:08

Well as the subject says this is my swag post from my trip to Sakura Con 2012 (also a few goodies I brought home with me from Pike Street in Seattle). It will not be as long as my other 2 posts about Sakura Con but it does have a lot of images. And I am keeping my promise that the swag post wouldn't have as big of a gap since my report on the last bit of the con :) Go me!

In case you missed the con posts you can find them here: Day 1 & 2 and Day 2 & 3.

Teaser:

So my teaser picture is basically the goodies you get for attending the convention, your program book, a pocket program, and your badge. Although the lanyard was not provided with the registration packet, you had to purchase them if you wanted a Sakura Con one, or get one from the artist alley like my con-buddy did. I ironically bought mine after seeing Todd's Q&A on Sunday on my way over to the dealer room to meet my con-buddy. The rest of the time I had it clipped to the strap of my purse. After going to as many conventions as I have I really do love lanyards to keep your con badge with you. Makes it much easier than having it randomly clipped somewhere. And it makes it easy to display when you get home :) Mine all end up hanging on my wire bookcase.

Next up we have some of the goodies I bought. The big plush in the back is Celty from Durarara!! and is probably the only "odd" purchase I made at this convention. I do like her but I kept looking at her in the hotel room the night I bought her saying she was my odd spur of the moment purchase. I think it might have been my Durarara!! fan girl bummed I didn't really find much for that anime at the con that I wanted. Now the other goodies I have here are all Fullmetal Alchemist. The two rubber straps by Celty were blind box purchases and I was hoping to pull Roy or Havoc but I got Armstrong (left) and Winry (right). Considering I met Armstrong's voice actor at the con I felt like it was meant to me with taking home something Armstrong. And then the box to the left of the picture is my newest Roy Mustang figure *squee* I wanted to get him at my local convention last year but they had sold out of Roy already and I bought Ed instead. Granted when I bought Roy at Sakura Con I bought the dealer's last Roy ;)

And naturally I had to pick up some new doujinshi *g* Here I have a Fullmetal Alchemist Roy/Hughes (left) and Soul Eater Stein/Spirit (right). I ended up spending a little more on these but they were from the dealer I usually buy from at AX. Since I can't go to AX this year it was nice to see what they had - and shockingly they had a lot of Roy with people not Ed doujinshi unlike at AX which was all Roy/Ed last year.

And these I bought from the dealer I bought doujinshi from at Yaoi Con :) I still have to say I love their selection and prices better. I hope that they are at Sakura Con next year cause I think I'll visit their booth first for my doujinshi love. These are both Fullmetal Alchemist Roy/Havoc ones.

Okay usually when I go to a con I have one or two items I'm hoping to find and pick up there so I don't have to order them online. Well this was one of those items for me. The artbook for Pandora Hearts (manga, not anime). I LOVE this artbook so much *hearts* It's all kinds of awesome and I lucked out finding it the first day we were at the convention.

Now the Ugly Doll (far left) was not purchased at Sakura Con but I did get him from my trip down to Pike Street, I just happened to take his picture with some con stuff. I was carrying it around the comic shop we were at cause it's one of the Ugly Dolls I've wanted for awhile and my uncle ended up buying it for me cause he wanted to get me something and so I could buy the bigger thing I wanted (picture will be later in post). Now the two con things in here I bought was the first volume of Blue Exorcist on DVD (which I just ordered the next 2 volumes tonight online *face palm*) and a free Soul Eater keychain I got from the Yen Press booth.

Now these little guys are some of my prized goodies I got in the artist alley this year. They are handmade felt dragons *g* I actually bought the red and black one first when we first went through the artist alley since he was the last one of that design, carried him around with me all day, and went back to get the little white and green one. The artist that made these sold out of all her stock on Saturday (when the con was still going on Sunday) so I feel lucky I got them. And the shocking thing is she wanted so little for them, both of these together cost $25 when she could have easily charged more since they're all handmade.

Another shot of my adopted dragons :) The red and black one is a completely different design and is longer.

The free Durarara!! poster I picked up from the Yen Press booth *squee* I love it :D

The free Black Butler Season 2 poster sized post card I got from Funimation's booth.

Now above is almost all of the free swag I got from various studio booths. And cause I am being lazy I'm not going to list everything individually, sorry.

Some more artist alley swag, all of these items are by the same artist, and surprisingly one I've already bought some stuff from on CafePress ages ago. The top two items are: a photo of Roy and Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist as Honey and Mori from Ouran High School Host Club; a bookmark of Kurogane and Fai from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles; and a button of Maes and his daughter from Fullmetal Alchemist. The bottom picture is the cast of Ouran High School Host Club cosplaying as other characters.

Now this artist - OMG - SOOOO in love with her work and I think my purchases show it. Everything in this picture is by the same artist and I bought three 8x10 prints of her's as well. And I would have happily bought more if I wasn't already telling myself I was getting a ton, she even commented on it too since I came back twice, and I didn't know where I could display it all. Other than the little keychain, which is Shizuo from Durarara!!, all of her work is original work. She said she sometimes models some work of different aspects of characters but she's creating original work. And if anyone is interested in seeing her art you can do so on Deviant Art here. You won't be sorry you did.

These are the same artist as above and are two of the three 8x10 prints I bought of her's. I fully have to admit that the top picture is the one that first caught my attention on her booth and made me stop to look at the rest of the work. Cause it caught my attention that much I knew it was going home with me before I'd even looked at anything else. Then when I was looking I was just blown away with the imagery, especially all of the ones with the girls that I ended up buying.

And this is the last picture I bought from the above mentioned artist. I really want to display something of her's in a frame on a wall. I just haven't decided which yet. That and I REALLY hope she's there again next year to buy from again :)

So this picture has a couple things, the first is the blue ticket on the top is the ticket I got for Todd's autograph session, which I didn't need *g* And the two bunny postcards I picked up in the artist alley. The reason I stopped at the booth was the one on the right was a zombie bunny *g*

And finally we have some free sticker for Kitty & Dino (left) and a Junjo Romantica pencil board (right) that I picked up. Now the Kitty & Dino stickers...this is for a picture book Yen Press put out that I have since bought and I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and everyone. The art is amazing in it and is completely in color. The stickers alone show the quality art and the story is all about a kitty living with a baby t-rex :)

And now I'll move to the few items I bought at Pike Street in downtown Seattle instead of Sakura Con.

First up we have the cup that my uncle bought me when we went to Starbucks. I personally love using these kinds of cups now cause my cats can't tip them over or try and drink out of them. I have a few bigger ones I've been using at home and I have one at work. What makes this one extra cool is you can only get it in the Pike Street Starbucks store since it's all jazzed up for the "first" store :) Old Starbucks mermaid design and everything.

Remember when I said my uncle bought my Ugly Doll so I could buy something bigger than I wanted? Well what I saw in the comic store that I wanted was this kick ass zombie light shade :D I declined buying the lamp with it that the comic book store was selling (have since bought my own when I got home) but it's just awesome. I'll have to post a picture of it all light up. This is the front of the shade.

Left side of the lamp shade.

And the right side of the lamp shade. I have it as my lamp on my nightstand in my room now *g*

Now it's been years since I've been to Seattle. The last time I went was the Thanksgiving after my grandma passed away. When we were there I found this street artist that did plexi glass art but we got to the market so late that I didn't really get to savor looking at his art - not that I didn't end up buying a lot *g* - but when we went down there this year I was secretly hoping he was still selling on Pike Street. Low and behind he was :D The last time I bought art from this guy the artist wasn't actually running his booth, but he was the day we went. So I got to chat with him (very cool dude) and he was really impressed that I already owned some of his artwork and wanted more, even more so when he realized I lived in a different state. Needless to say I ended up getting a deal on what I bought this time - not that I was hoping to get one but I appreciated it all the same. All of the art and text he creates.

These are the magnet sized prints of his I bought. The one on the right I had him not put magnets on (he put them on when you bought them so they wouldn't get scratched) because I plan on displaying it with a few of the coaster prints I bought of his all those years ago which I have mounted on my wall. The one on the left I had him put magnets on and I actually have it up at work on my metal cabinets above my computer.

And this is the new 5x7 print I bought. I have another one that has a raven and I am so attracted to skulls that it called to me right away. This I already have hung up in my room - although not around the other one - and just yeah. I love them :D I know I call them prints but these all have plexi glass covering them and felt/foam backings to encase the print. This time when I was at his booth he did have one of his original pieces there to try and sell, so I did get to see how he layers everything together doing the original then how they turn into the prints. Very cool. He told me to come see him again if I'm in the area since he's been there for years. I do believe I'll be doing that next year when I go back to Sakura Con :)

Please do NOT hotlink or share. Thanks!

And finally I have all of my vacation pictures up :) Bad me for taking this long, but considering some of the other picture posts I still want to do (like Halloween) this isn't too bad.

Thanks to anyone that read my 2 con posts and visited this one as well *hugs flist* But now I do afraid it's that thing called bed so I can try and survive another Monday at work come tomorrow.
