Just a few, but I think this is the quickest in a long time I'm getting them up since all of these I've seen since Saturday :)
And instead of putting this on every cut I will just say this now:
ALL REVIEWS CONTAIN SPOILERS! If you don't want to have spoilers don't look below the cuts.
V for Vendetta: Now this movie is actually rather interesting. I've seen the previews for the movie for ages but wasn't really gung-ho about going to see it. Then I started seeing everyone raving about the movie on livejournal, some friends of mine wanted to see it, so I ended up agreeing and went. I honestly am glad I did. The over all movie is very much a hot button kind of movie, touches on a lot of topics that can get people angry - myself included. Namely the way that the society was run, how things were deemed black listed, etc. Things that logically mirror our society now and could be our society in the future.
That said I LOVE V, Hugo Weaving did an excellent job bringing a character to life that is constantly behind a mask. A very odd mask at that. And for some odd reason the artist in me was loving the mask along with the black wig, the black costume, the red roses *hearts* I think I will have a field day with graphics when I can actually cap the movie myself and take scenes I enjoyed.
Also I guess I should say that I've never read the graphic novel, although I have seen some things people have said about the change of media in relation to V and Evey. From what I've gotten there was no romantic element to their relationship in the novel but in the movie there is. An obvious reason for that of course is the neend to make the movie have a love story for the Hollywood treatment. It's something done time and time again in films, the "oh wait! we need romance!" aspect to a film. However I do have to say in the movie's treatment of V and Evey actually makes a lot of sense to me, particularly when you look at the ending of the film to the beginning.
After V has died Evey says that V is everyone. The idea has infected everyone and with the same right infected itself. The idea has now become human. Considering the beginning of the film when it talks about how an idea can never feel, never love, that it just is there is a very valid point. V himself called himself an idea and becomes his mantra for not giving up even when he's had numerous people empty their clips into his chest. The fact that V transended the "idea" and felt for Evey made the idea human, something that others could touch and become. And for one reason or another I like that. Not to say that this couldn't have happened through the progression of the movie without the Evey romance but for me it worked.
Another thing I absolutely loved in the movie was the little girl. The role she played, while sad, was beautifully done.
All in all, great movie. And a last note - the music - so beautiful *cuddles soundtrack*
The Dark: Okay, first off I fully admit to knowing nothing about the movie when I watched it. For the most part all the trailers I managed to see were never in English and as a rule I generally avoid reading the back of DVD cases, unless of course I don't care about possibly reading spoilers. But either way I went into the movie blind, it's not a bad horror movie (I've seen worse movies) but it's not the best horror movie. Actually considering how many foreign horror films I've watched over the last year the movie made me think of a lot of the key factors in the films all rolled into one. Off the top of my head it reminds me a lot of The Ring and Dark Water, though there were elements of other films as well. Also some parts of the movie very seriously made me think of Silent Hill (games naturally), which is kind of amusing considering Sean's in the movie treatment of Silent Hill ;)
However, with that said Sean is amazing in it considering what he's given to work with. I was swooning quite a bit cause he has more of his accent coming through, and then of course the longer hair, and he's so cute around children :) Another huge plus of course is he doesn't die in the movie *cheers* Either way I'm going to eventually end up owning it. If I can find it under $20 in town on Tuesday I'll probably buy it. Sean's good in it and I love supporting him by supporting his movies. And it is better than Flightplan, so there's an automatic bonus right there.
But over all my opinion is - not the best, not the worst, I doubt I'd recommend it to many people unless of course they're Bean fans :)
11:14: Wonderfully delightful movie. Actually this movie was one a friend of mine recommended to me, said I should rent it from work, well needless to say I did and now own the movie from my work as well. It has a lot of big name people in it and has a very independant feeling to it. A movie that has a lot of twists and turns and is very much one of those movies where you have a lot of disjointed stories that as the movie progresses you see how they all connect together. For some reason I'm extremely drawn to these kind of movies. One of the only movies I can really think to compare the movie to would be Go!. While I don't know if everyone else would want to own the movie I do recommend it for at least one viewing. The script is well done, in my opinion, and it's an enjoyable viewing experience.
