Fuck! I hate biological warfare! It was bad enough listening to the possibly threat of it from the Indies back some odd fifteen years ago. The Locust... now they didn't fight like this shit. Too dumb ( Read more... )

So, Dom, I take it it's safe to go outside now, but the more I hear the more I'm wondering if I want to. ...Well, curiosity may have killed the cat, but....

[a muffled grunt and other assorted background noises as Faye unseals her tunnel and climbs out]

Alright, then, let's see what- sonofabitch!

[long pause... when Faye continues, her voice sounds a little smaller]

...Shit. ...I guess now we know what happened to the rest of the world.

Yeah, kinda...

[he listens to her reply as it plays through the rest, her getting out of her hidey hole and whatnot]

I'd have to agree to that assessment.

...Both accounts.

[the sound of Faye clearing her throat, followed by a short pause; her voice is stronger, although it still sounds a bit shaky]

...Holy hell I'm glad I decided not to try to walk out of here. ...And I don't think I've ever been so glad we have the Warden with us.

Yeah, I'm glad I managed to find a hole to bunker down in when this shit hit the fan. I was out and about and--

Hn. Agreed. It was nice to have a warning. ...I wonder if anyone else would have noticed in time and thought to give a warning if he hadn't?

[scratch is a hard-to-hear whisper]

I mean, he's a bastard, but he's a bastard that does seem to actually care a little whether we live or die, and he actually knows what's going on....

[Faye thinks of how things would've played out without the Warden's warning... when she speaks she sounds a little choked, and horrified]

...If he hadn't- if everyone had still been outside-

In other words he's an advantage. ["but not much else" was implied in his tone]

...Exactly.

[a bit of a pause]

How long until the next attack, I wonder. There's no way this is over.

No. It's not. But there's no real way to know when the next part will come either. We don't have satellites or UAVs to gather Intel for us, or even any field agents behind enemy lines. We've got nothing.

A real army would have something.

[tired annoyance]

Yeah, well we've never been a real army. I don't know much about war, but I know the Keepers are crap at it.
