It's only been a few weeks since Ron moved from the Burrow to Hermione's flat. They still have plenty of things to discuss, but he's never been happier. Crookshanks has behaved himself.. so far, but Ron still keeps a close eye on the thing just in case. He swears the beast makes faces at him behind Mione's back, but she's so attached to the cat that it's hard to convince her that Crooks is a devil in a kneazle's furry form.
He's asleep in his bed, just a room over from Hermione's, and finds himself in some sort of dream. He feels like himself in the dream but is obviously much older.
"Mum! Dad! Look what Hugo did to my hair!" A little girl comes stomping out into the living area and Ron sees a woman come out of another room. A woman who who immediately recognizes as Hermione but many years older than the one he knows. The little girl's hair is sticking straight up in the hair in a fashion that makes Ron himself smirk a little but hides it quickly when he catches the look Hermione sends him.
"Rose, dear, did your brother cast a charm on your hair?" She kneels down next to the girl who looks around six or seven and Ron notices the similarities in their faces. It's all starting to come together especially when he glances down to his hands and sees a simple band on his finger. Huh.
"Yes!" Rose says with her bottom lip jutted out. "Fix it, Mum."
Just then a boy slightly younger-looking than the girl, about five or six, creeps out from the hallway and peeks around the corner. Ron, as confused as he was just a moment ago, soon catches on. "Hugo, why did you charm your sister's hair," he asks and walks over to the rest of them. The boy has red hair to make all the Weasley clan proud.
"She said she wanted to give me a cut, Dad, even after I said I wanted it to grow." Hugo crosses his arms over his chest and makes a face at his sister.
"That's still no reason for you to have done that." No matter how funny Ron himself might have found it at his son's age.. or even right now. Just not at the expense of his daughter's tears, of course.
Sighing, Hermione fetches her own wand and with an easy and quick spell, Rose's hair is back to normal. "All better now?"
"Yes." Rose says grumily.
There's a soft mewing and a brush up against Ron's leg and he jumps a bit and looks down to see a much too familiar Kneazle cat swishing his tail and looking up at Ron with a certain look in his eye that makes Ron just slightly uneasy. The cat swishes his tail against Ron's leg once more and then starts to walk off down the hallway.
"Crooks!" Hugo exclaims and runs after the cat with Rose at his heels, laughing as if nothing had just happened and no hair had been out of place. Merlin, he was never going to be rid of the thing, was he? Hermione just shakes her head with a laugh and touches Ron's hand as she passes by to disappear back into the study where she had just been moments earlier.
Eyes popping open, Ron stares up at the ceiling and thinks about the dream he'd just had. Married? Two children? Rolling over to his side, he spots a pair of eyes staring back at him in the darkness from the floor. No, he was never going to be rid of the cat.
But if the rest of the scene came along with it? Maybe.. maybe he could learn to feed him like Mione suggested and win a few points with Crooks. Smiling to himself, Ron closes his eyes and drifts off back to sleep.
