Hi Everyone,
As some of you may know, I'm participating in Braking the Cycle as rider number 122! I'm in the midst of my fundraising for the ride on September 28-30th and I need your help!
I chose to participate in Braking the Cycle because it is something I can do in the face of this virus. As one of 140 other riders raising money and riding for the Center's HIV/AIDS services, our participation is our best effort to assure that the Center receives that much more funding to provide resources and support to our community. It is at once only a drop in the bucket and a tidal wave. If Braking the Cycle was double or triple the distance I would still ride--it's that important.
[Were that the case, hopefully, they'd add a few more days to the trip, though, because topping the list of things I am not, directly after double dutch champion of Bedford-Stuyvesant (seriously, the little kids in my neighborhood can school me!) is a world-class cyclist.]
Working at the Center these past six months has been the most fulfilling experiences of my personal and professional life despite the challenges. These two experiences have never been so interconnected before and that, I think, is something that makes working and living in this community so satisfying. Seeing the work make a difference in peoples' lives--there's nothing better than that.
If anyone would like to donate in the name of a loved one, please feel free to give me some signage to plaster on my bike and jersey for the trip.
