Iceland clearly hates me

We were supposed to be in Ireland this weekend, but grounded by volcanic ash of all things...

We were originally booked to fly on Thursday, rebooked for very early today but that flight got cancelled too:(

So we decided to make the best of today (yesterday was a bit of a write off...) and got all dressed up to go out and spend our erstwhile holiday money. I wore my black corduroy Victorian Maiden dress with the ruffly Rococo bolero. Also tried the Bumpits I got cheap from Claires. They do work surprisingly well, although I think it helps that I have the sort of hair that sticks to things.

And we went to the Enchanted Palace exhibition at Kensington Palace!

It is very good, very lolita aesthetic friendly. Its concept is based on the stories of seven princesses who lived at the Palace, each room is themed around one particular princess and a common condition of their lot. Such as a demand to produce an heir. This is all set against common fairy tale motifs such as dancing slippers, snow covered forests, howling wolves and ball dresses. There was even a Suppurate System style apple headdress that I demand you recreate Kyra!

There were some incredibly bitchy comments in the guestbook about it being "indulgent" and not really 'suitable' for a Royal Palace. I left a message telling them to go to Buckingham Palace if they want guidebooks and gilt mirrors. Bloody lowbrows....

I wholeheartedly recommend it and would visit it again if it wasn't 12 squid to get in. Perhaps I will become a member of the Royal Palaces and spend every Saturday at various palaces.

Then off to Fortnum and Mason for cut price Easter Egg shopping and High Tea at their St James restaurant. Started with savoury amuse bouche, including some red caviare which is GOOD. M had Welsh rarebit and I had poached eggs and ham on toasted muffins. Followed by scones and cakes. Washed down with champagne and tea. Staggered home feeling decadent.
