My polling station was practically empty. But it always is when I go to vote: middle of the afternoon, after the lunch rush and before the last minute after work rush. Didn't have to wait for a machine, and since there was no line behind me I amused myself by writing in candidates instead of voting for any of the five Circuit Court candidates running, who had the most ludicrous names I have ever seen lined up in a row on a ballot. I considered soberly and carefully who would be a worthy addition to the court, opened up my iPhone Facebook app, and wrote in the first five names on my friends list who live in Maryland. So if anyone gets a surprise call from the courthouse wanting to know why you haven't shown up to be fitted for robes, you have me to thank.
