if I learned one thing from Frankenstien its "Fire Bad!"

i was studying from 11a til around 1pm and started feeling tired. I've been needing naps in the middle of the day recently (more on that in a bit), so I decided a half hour nap was in order.
around 1:30 I notice that my house smelled like something was burning. I had used my toaster that morning and figured it was that or the heat lamp for the snakes. well. the vent to the burner was blowing out gray smoke.
I do have a coal burner ( this is the more part. um sleepy headache might mean CO poisoning swell!) and had some probs so I wasnt to shocked by this.
I did decide it was "snake-vacuation" time. I grab the boys and dumped them and my MacBook in my backpack. I was wearing the pink sundress and no pants/shoes. I went down stairs to find my "leaf raker" neighbor was sitting on the porch. i asked her about the smoke smell and she said she tried to go down in the basement but it was too smokey.
kay... so we are doing what about this? oh right smoking a cigarette and drinking diet coke...
i thought it was the dryer smoking so i called the landlord to come and deal with it. then i went to see how bad dryer was damaged. it was too smokey to see to the bottom of the stairs. it was still making lots of smoke. that means fire right?
called the fire dept ( even though the landlord didnt want them there).
I went back in to get pants and my shoes. there was so much smoke building I couldn't see the stairs on my way out. frick. about an hr later after them dealing with the black smoke in the basement i was let it. everything is covered it soot. the boiler pipes from the basement funneled the smoke up and into my place. fantastic!
me and the snakes are at a friends place tonight. I called a professional cleaner ( the landlord was going to have his sister in law come in and clean) to see what the cost will be to clean my stuff/the apt. his homeowners' insurance should cover the apt proper but I dont have renter's insurance. I'll be paying out for all the cleaning.
cant wait to come back to NJ
