I was always relieved to know the film project didn't make it, as, geez, that script was on all the wrong kinds of crack. I think it's because I normally deeply mistrust film adaptations of books that this news isn't making me smile (i.e. good adaptations always seem to be the exception to the rule). If it's true, they'd better do it right.
Haha oh hell I only came here to see if anyone else felt the way I do about this, and of course it would be you <3 I'm not entirely negative, but very, very apprehensive. And if it never happens, I won't be heart-broken.
The script for the failed film project hardly resembled the book, in many respects; it's when adaptations go that far off the rails that I wonder why they even bother. It sounds as if this project is happening, so...yeah. I'll hope it doesn't look as abysmal as the previous attempt. By all means, cut material if you have to (and they will have to; it's an intricate narrative with a lot of simultaneous threads), but don't bend things beyond recognition.
I know they had Gilliam in mind to direct that abomination of a screenplay, which by all accounts already seems to have fallen through several times over. Is the implication that they're considering him to direct the mini-series instead?
(Ah, never mind, I see; somebody mentioned above Jones writing the adaptation in this case. Got my Terrys crossed!)
Plus, if they really want to get it done properly, the budget must be huge. Okay, starting to worry now. :/ I'm afraid we won't get to see frozen door-to-door salesmen on the path to hell.
