Pre-Arrangement query

I've been wondering this for quite some time...

Is there actually anywhere in canon that specifically says Aziraphale and Crowley fought in a physical manner before the Arrangement? Yes, they were Enemies, but did they have knock-down-drag-outs? So far, I cannot find anywhere this is written, nor even inferred. Is this only fanon?

Well, I can't imagine why Aziraphale would have a flaming sword if not to use it against demons. He can hardly go around killing humans with it and if he just wanted to hold something impressive, why a sword? Why not a flaming staff?

But no, I don't think there's any canonical indication that they did have physical fights. Then again, there's no indication that they didn't, either. I've been having them fight in my story mostly because thirty chapters where they just argue verbally would get pretty boring.

Plus, there's this line...

"This was ridiculous. The last thing he needed now was to be killed. It would require all sorts of explanations. They didn't hand out new bodies just like that; they always wanted to know what you'd done with the old one."

Which seems to indicate that Crowley at least has been discorporated at some point, but it seems unlikely that a human could get the drop on him, unless he was shot maybe, but guns are only a relatively recent invention.

Anyway, yeah, I don't know. I could honestly see it either way. Either they evolved over time, just like humans did, or they've always been the way they are now. Interesting question, though!
