My take on Hastur/Ligur is that upon discovering the GO fandom you only *think* you're not going to like it, then somebody links you to daegaer's H/L stories and you're instantly hooked - well, that's what happened to me.
Not exactly what happened in my case. I was reading the book for the second or third time and the pairing breifly popped into my head. Next second I go "EW, nobody would seriously read that". Then I find the fandom.
I should have expected it, knowing what people in other fandoms read. The stuff in the Potter fandom is frankly scary - far, far worse than the H/L fics here.

Heh, there are a number of times when I've stumbled across a HP fic that has left me unable to open - or in one case even look at - the books without wincing and being forced to ward off an attack of bad mental images.
That, my friend, is why I avoid the fandom as a whole. Except for Pottersues - most of the stuff there is funny enough to offset the trauma. Then again, sometimes they're just traumatic - like the one somewhere in her archives where Harry, Ron and Draco got sucked into an alternate universe and became Arabian handmaidens with Japanese names. Do not ask.
I don't read Potterfic in general unless it's been recced to me, as I know the horrors that await the unwary fan. To my certain knowledge, there is at least one NC-17 Snape/Buckbeak fic somewhere out there. I'd like to avoid accidentally running across stuff like that if I can.

Why do I get the awful impression that this story wasn't intended as comedy crackfic.
I think the most traumatic thing I ever encountered was the hermaphrodite!Snape fic featuring mpreg, rape and several olypic swimming pools full of angst. I only read a few extracts posted by somebody on my flist and it was still enough to make me want to curl up in a corner and rock back and forth until the memories repressed themselves.
Oh please, you're just looking for subtext where none exists. JKR's clearly hinting at Hagrid/Buckbeak. After all that he's been through Buckbeak needs somebody strong and reliable to turn to. Somebody with whom he's had a long and establish friendship.
