Ah, spring! You have finally deigned to grace us with your presence. It's such a relief to have even that little bit of green to break up the grey and brown of the asphalt and brick. This morning I woke up not to the sound of train whistles, car horns, or the screech-bang of the central air unit right outside my window, but to actual birdsong. The ice cream truck (that likes to park outside our dorms late at night and annoy us with its never-ending cheerfulness) has reappeared, and today they even mowed the lawn in our commons; the smell of it drifted into our third-story classroom and made me smile. And my most favorite part? The nightly soccer game in the nearby athletic field is now shirts vs. skins. Oh yeah.
And in what I'm now realizing is going to be the norm, I'm completely swamped with work in school and out. I briefly went home for Easter to see my family, my grandfather had passed away a week before but I was too overwhelmed to be able to get home before this weekend. It still hasn't really sunk in because the memorial service won't be for another few weeks, but it was good to mourn with family nonetheless. The loss of the weekend study time has put me even farther behind than before, but in typical procrastinator fashion I've spent tonight watching Doctor Who (I *love* the tenth doctor, you friends from home really need to watch this show) and Veronica Mars downloads and reading Alias fanfiction to get me in the mood for the second half of the season that's starting soon. Sometimes I'm really ashamed of myself that I can't just buckle down and do work; I know I would be happier if I didn't put things off until the last second, but I'm somehow more productive when I do. Go figure. I'm just hoping I have some free time this weekend, I get a load of movies in the mail on Thursday/Friday (Amelie, Brokeback Mountain, Memoirs of a Geisha, King Arthur, The Four Feathers, Good Night and Good Luck-- none of which I've seen before, and then Goblet of Fire, which I have, but special features!) and I would really really love to at least have time for a mini-marathon. Alas, my numerous and lengthy assignments will probably swallow my soul by then, but I hope with this to motivate me I might procrastinate slightly less over the rest of the week. Slightly. Wish me luck!
