Just realized that LoudTwitter is keeping me on the posting everyday/keeping people updated on my life biz, even if I'm not blogging it, exactly. Ha.
Anyway, time for updates!
Classes are going pretty well. I'm really liking my Descriptive Grammar class, surprisingly. It's about how language is used, not about all the rules. Actually, we debunk the myths that there exists a 'formal standard English' that should be followed. Learning all about how language is so fluid and constantly changing and Black English, alternatively African-American Vernacular English, is considered a language in its own right. How cool is that? I feel like I talk too much in that class, though. But it's like MAA of semesters past; if I don't talk, no one does, it seems. I'll test the theory on Thursday, try to be a bit more quiet.
Lessee, what else... oh, Shakespeare! Desiree informs me I got the best teacher possible, and Dr. Demastes is pretty cool, I have to admit. He tries to infuse a lot of humor into it, and make the words a bit more accessible. Puts things into context, shows clips from good film versions, etc. He actually has some extra credit opportunities where you can perform from one of the plays we're reading! Or he has viewings of good versions; like tomorrow, the Liz Taylor version of Taming of the Shrew. Speaking of, I need to read through act four (or is it five) by tomorrow? Technically, not going to be tested on it (hopefully) until Friday.
Bio is... not terrible, so far. But that's relative. We haven't had any online quizzes - and I don't think we'll have homework (HALLELUJAHS WERE SUNG). Kiah warns me that the tests are no joke, though, so I should probably spend some quality time with the Polar Bear Book this week.
French is slowly coming back to me. I posted on Angelique's wall that I'd forgotten everything; she replied today that it would come back to me, and she's right. But it's easier/more fun to complain about it. I have a couple of old classmates with me, Megan and Tristan. Marcus abandoned us and took it over the summer by himself, so no more classes with him. Had lunch today, though, that was good.
Brit Lit II is interesting. The material hasn't gotten any easier to decipher, but the professor is good-- thanks for the rec, Megan (from French). She tries to keep it funny, doesn't go off on tangents and is very clear on what she wants/expects us to know and will quiz or test us on. Also hasn't gone over time in class, yet, so there's another plus.
All in all I think I can do rather well this semester if I just buckle down and do the reading (of a four page narrative pastoral poem, an entire Shakespeare play, chapters of Biology, descriptive grammar stuff, French stories gahhhhhhhh) I'm supposed to do.
Aw, Open Your Eyes just came on Pandora. It makes me want to break out Charlie and get my callouses back, but it's going to be midnight by the time I get off the desk. Sadface. *pout* I don't want to wake the neighbors with my bad singing and slow, halting chords. Also just got told by a guy I was checking in that I have good penmanship. I said thanks, but now I'm thinking about it, he might've been sarcastic. Oh, well. Damn, and now Run came on! I really want to playyyyyyyyyy. Boo, quiet hours.
Okay, running out of time at the desk, so I will bid you a tout a l'heure.
