I've resorted to doing free weights while watching A&E real life murder documentaries. Yes, I am that bored and that full of excess energy. I think my foot's getting better though! It has turned a somewhat horrifying shade of blue and remains so swollen that it looks like an oblong bag of fat, but both my mom and grandma have assured me that this is pretty normal.
Speaking of my mom, we went to the hospital for chemo treatment: round 2 yesterday morning. I didn't realize the cancer treatment clinic could be such a great place for picking up - the guy getting his treatment in the next chair was TOTALLY flirting with my mom. And he's a Westjet pilot/former airforce pilot. Pur-RAWR. I guess it takes dating a string of deadbeat musicians to understand that whole equating career with sex appeal thing. Not that I was attracted to the pilot... because that would be incredibly inappropriate and awkward. I dug that he liked my mom. But, hey, as far as I am concerned, there is something to be said for dating someone with interests that transcend an obsession with Keith Jarret or Jaco Pastorius and with career potential that doesn't necessarily involve being eternally immersed in a largely inaccessible and self-obsessed art form. And let's just assume I'm talking exclusively about my string of intense jazz musician ex-boyfriends here so that I don't miff anyone on my friends list who has Classical inclinations!
Christ knows I'm a total sucker for the artsy types, but it would be kind of neat, I think, to be with someone for whom music is A topic of conversation rather than THE topic. Even if I personally don't bring much else to the table.
ANYways. My mom! The treatment has gone much so better for her this time than the last. Her first round of therapy made her very ill and she lost 8 pounds in under a week. The more recent treatment has made her feel lousy, but she's not throwing up and she's even eating some of my mediocre cooking. Between my swollen foot and her chemo we've had a lot of time to sit around bonding and drinking tea and watching horrible reality television. We'll probably be driving each other crazy in a week, but it's still really lovely at the moment.
Tomorrow I will hopefully be even more fit for walking, as I am going out to spend the day with MRS. Kristyna. I'm not sure what hijinks will ensue, but I'm pretty sure that they will involve
