Panic At The Disco recap

Mar 31, 2008 19:23

So. Remember how I went to see Panic at Leeds and came back squeeing? No? Not surprising as it was weeks ago. But whatever, here's the recap. :)

My friend and I got to Leeds at about 3.15pm, and spent the next half and hour trying to find where we were supposed to go. We then decided that getting a taxi would be for the best. Got to the queue at about 4pm, there were around 30 people already there, which was pretty much expected.

While Imran and I waited for his two other friends to show up, Zach (Zack?) walked up and down the line. At first he was just talking to fans, I said hi, he said it back. I was quite excited by that. I also asked how ridiculously early I would have to get to HMV to get wristbands for their signing on Monday. He said he had no idea as his job is just make sure those four boys get there on time. Which, yeah, I can definitely see how that would be a full time job. Later he was trying to find the people who had won the meet & greet. I hadn't. I hadn't even entered. So for a joke, I was like, I didn't win, but you could be really amazing and let me in anyway. He laughed and walked off. At this point one of the friends, Ben, showed up.

Zach came back and the people in front/behind me starting asking if they could go to the m&g, because they had entered the competition 3/5/8/*enter a random number here* times on myspace! He looked at me and I shrugged, and was like, I don't even have a myspace, but I do have a livejournal. He asked whether I was on patd, I said yes, and then he asked my username. I kind of hate my username, so after a pause I told him (well, I mumbled it). He didn't recognise it (not surprising) and said how a couple of members were creepy. Which, yeah, I can see why he would say that.

Ben: Come on, you guys are on a first name basis! Let her in
Me: Um. I know his name because I'm a creepy stalker. He doesn't know mine
Zach: Ashley? *Says some other random names*
Me: *Blinks* Dude, it's Kamalpreet/Kam
Zach: I was never gonna get that
Everyone: Duh

Then he tried to guess the names of the people around me. He sucked at it. He also implied that one of the girls may actually be a boy. I was amused. He told us how in order to let non-competition winners into the m&g, he would ask fans really hard question. He looked at me and said, you're from livejournal, so you'll probably know the answer; you guys are obsessed. To which I answered, yup. He also said he's mean, so he'll ask questions, but only the person who gets the answer can go in. Their friends couldn't. Imran and Ben said straight away, take her, she's more deserving. Damn right, I am!

He wondered off again, probably to see whether more m&g people had shown up. During this time, I randomly saw a friend of mine from high school. That was weird. Also, Imran left us to find his friend, Dan. Then Zach came back, pointed at me, and told me to wait in the m&g line. I didn't even have to answer a question. \o/

While waiting in the line, I called

espoirliberte and my friend Lauren (who was supposed to come, but flaked the night before. Bet she's regretting it now). Zach then came over and took us inside. When we got to the room, which overlooked the stage and you could see Metro Station soundchecking, he told us what would happen. We would go around twice, first time to get something signed, the second time we would give Zach our camera and you would get a photo taken with the boys. If you had you friends with you, then with them, if you were on your own, then you would on your own with them. I love my friends, but I'm so glad I was on my own. Just me and the boys! He also gave us rules, such as,  don't be creepy, and no random  touching otherwise you'll be kicked out of the concert. And maybe even blacklisted for future gigs. Zach is insanely awesome, but also a little scary, so I believed him. He went off to get the boys, and I called
shiny_sly and squeed. However, the second the boys came out, I lost what coherency I had. Seriously, I was like "I can't believe I got.....hi, Ryan! Spencersmith! Jwalk! Brendon Urie, damn!". Sorry about that, Rachel.

Ok. So. I didn't expect to go to the m&g. I thought, go to the concert and then go clubbing. Therefore I wore a top I would usually wear when I go out as it's...revealing. If I had known I would get to meet the boys, I wouldn't have worn it. Oh, who am I kidding? I totally would have worn it. Especially as it allowed Jon Walker to stare at my boobs. Seriously. I was like, wait, what?! First it was Brendon, who, you guys. He looks amazing close up. And so enthusiastic. When I thanked him, he was all, "NO PROBLEM!". The capitalisation is required. Then Spencer, who's so sweet! But man, Jon's smile. I know Spencer's smile is rainbows and puppies, but Jon's isn't far off.

Me: Thanks!
Jon: *looks at my face* No problem. *Looks down, and stares, before looking back up*
Me: *Blinks* ........um *passes ticket to Ryan*
Ryan: *Signs it*
Me: Thank you
Ryan: You're welcome
Me: *Turns to walk off*
Jon: Thanks for coming
Me: Uh. You're welcome?

I walked back to the queue in a daze. The boys know I exist. Jon Walker obviously knows that my breasts exist. Jon Walker is sweet and thanking me for coming. Jon, there’s really no need to thank me!

Then the photo!

I said thanks, and they were all cute and polite and said bye. And then Jon was like, I hope you enjoy the show! I was like, I'm sure I will. But seriously, JWalk, stop talking and perving on fans and then expecting them to be coherent! At that point, I will still stuck on how I was in between Panic At The Disco, and how that usually only happens in my dreams. Zach then took us back out and I thanked him again. He smiled at me and said no problem and Zach, how are you so awesome?

Went back and found that Imran had gone to get food with Dan, and that Ben was all on his own. But he had made friends. Underage friends, but friends nonetheless. Ben is such a gentleman sometimes that's it's kind of hilarious. He's willing to give a girl his coat and freeze to death himself. I had his hoodie earlier, and I had to force him to take it back. He wouldn't even though I was going inside. Silly, but adorable, boy. But anyway, he had given some other girl his hoodie, who was trying her best to give it back, because it was freezing and he only had a t-shirt on. She already had a jacket. I told him she didn't want the bloody thing anymore and he was being an idiot. When Imran and Dan came back, I attempted to find another one of my friends who lives down the hall from me. The queue went down the front, around the corner, and all the way down the street. I gave up quickly. Went back and five minutes later, the doors opened, and everyone rushed in.

As I went in, I lost my friends. This tends to happen a lot when I go to concerts, as I run off in order to get a good place. And it works, as I managed to be in the centre of the second row.

Waited around for a bit and then Black Gold came on. They were ok, I guess. Quite generic, but they kept me entertained, as did Erick Ronick’s arms. My camera didn’t have much battery and I wanted to save what I had for Panic, but I could not stop taking pictures of his arms. And then Brendon came onstage, and I just gave up and kept my camera on for the rest of their set. So yes, generic, but pretty.

Metro Station. Ugh. A few of their songs are annoyngly catchy if you don't actually listen to the lyrics. Because if you do, you'll realise how creepy they are. And they're just as creepy in real life. Trace was trying to flirst with every girl in the audience, and I didn't know whether to laugh or cringe. And I'm not sure whether they actually played their instruments live.

Panic! Ugh. Love them. They came out and went straight into ‘We’re So Starving’, which I was hoping they would do. And then went into NITA, and it was awesome. Brendon, oh Brendon. His voice has improved so much, I’m so proud of him. As much as I love the band, I would sometimes cringe when I watched YouTube footage of them, but now they all sound fabulous. And Ryan! Singing! I was expecting him singing in monotone, but there was some inflection in his voice. I was very impressed. And, on a more shallow note, they all look so good. For awhile Brendon was looking too pale and too thin, but now…guh.

The whole set was really relaxed and they seemed to be really enjoying themselves. I don’t care about all these rumours about how Jon and Ryan are being arseholes to Brendon. I didn’t see any evidence of that on stage. Brendon spent a lot of the time messing around with Ryan, who didn’t look pissed off, but instead looked amused and like he was enjoying himself. Stop making me worry about the band imploding, dammit.

Ack, the problem with writing this up now is that I’ve forgotten some of the details. So here’s what I can remember in note form!

- Brendon drinking beer on stage and pretending that it was soda. Don’t lie to us, boys, I could clearly see that you were drinking Cobra beer! (I spent many summers working in my family’s shop, I know what that beer looks like).
- Spencer Smith, where were you? I could hardly see him, he was so far back! And because of the lighting, I couldn’t take any decent pictures of him. That made me sad.
- Ryan’s scarf wrapped around his microphone stand. That just amused me. You charm me, Ryan Ross.
- Jon mentioning how hot it was, and everyone around me grumbling how he should try being in the pit.

Um. There was other stuff, but I can’t remember. But it was amazing and I can’t wait for them to come back.

Everyone left pretty quickly. Probably because there was a Leeds uni club night there after. I almost got a setlist, but some girl elbowed me in the neck and took it. Ouch, bitch.

Best photo I managed to take of Spencer. :(
