I sighed softly as his lips pressed against mine.
Edward.
I heard a soft chuckle come from beside me. I rolled of and cracked open my eyes. I found him lying next to me, relaxing. His perfect features never ceased to amaze me. He looked at me and smiled. His butterscotch eyes twinkled brightly, signaling that he had just hunted.
“Come on sleepy head! Alice is waiting for us!” he said pouncing on the bed.
“Huh?” I didn’t remember having plans for today. He smiled my favorite crooked smile.
“Your not very bright in the morning love.” His eyes twinkled as he tried to get me to remember. Suddenly, something clicked and I understood.
“It’s your birthday! Oh Edward! Happy Birthday! Your umm what 107 now?” I said.
He reached towards me and kissed my hair.
“Close enough, I’m very happy you remembered.” he said. I sighed.
“How could I forget your birthday Edward? He smiled.
“Well when you’re immortal, birthdays don’t really matter anymore.” He sighed sadly.
“Oh come on Edward, don’t start with this now. I love you, you love me and it’s your birthday today! What’s Alice got in store today?” I asked. Edward immediately straightened stood up.
“I have no idea but come on, we can’t keep her waiting too long.” he answered as he lifted me off the bed.
“Wait! I have to dress!” I yelled. Edward erupted in laughter.
“Oh yeah, I forgot about that.” He set me down on the ground and stood waiting. I straightened up, grabbed my toiletries and clothes and half ran to the bathroom. I dressed in a daze and sped back. Edward still stood there with his perfect marble body and face, sitting on my bed. I sighed in pleasure.
“Ok I’m ready.” Edward stood up.
“I’ll see you outside.” he said. He gave me a quick kiss on the lips and climbed out the window. I sighed and trudged down the stairs. Charlie was sitting on the couch watching TV. He looked up when I came into the room.
“Going somewhere Bells?” he asked. I nodded.
“It’s Edward’s birthday today and he’s turning 18. We’re having a sort of ’family’ party. That okay?” I asked. Charlie nodded thoughtfully.
“He’s turning 18 did you say?” he asked.
“Yup.” I said, impatient to get out the door.
“You be careful okay?”
“Dad! Please! Bye.” I said hurriedly, trying to avoid an awkward talk.
Charlie also looked very embarrassed.
“Bye.” he muttered.
I practically ran out the door and to the awaiting car outside. As I stepped into the Volvo, I saw Edward smiling ear to ear. I rolled my eyes as we drove off to his house.
15 minutes later I stepped out of the car excitedly.
“Ready Edward? Happy-Birthday by the way!” I said. He grinned. He put his hand around me gently and led me towards the door. Then I remembered.
“I totally forgot.” I said, stopping dead in my tracks. Edward backpedaled immediately at my side with a worried expression on his face.
“What is it Bella? What did you forget?” he asked anxiously. I shook my head. How stupid could I be?
“I..I.. I forgot to get you a present.” I said ashamed. I could literally beat my self for forgetting. How could I forget to get Edward, a present? I really am a self-centered person.
To my surprise though, Edward erupted in laughter. I couldn’t help but grin myself, his laugh made me smile.
“You, you thought…” he said still in fits of laughter. Finally after he stopped laughing he began to talk.
“Look Bella, firstly, if I could not get you a present, you are defiantly NOT getting a present for me. Secondly,” he said.
“He lifted up my chin so he could gaze into my eyes. They were a deep butterscotch and they twinkled excitedly.
“Secondly, you are my present, as long as I have you, I will NEVER ask for anything. Ever.” I smiled and kissed him on the lips.
With that, we walked up to the beautiful house and knocked. Immediately, Alice answered, her eyes wide and full of excitement.
“Bella! I’m so glad you could come!” she squealed excitedly. I pulled her into a quick hug and we entered the house. Then she turned to Edward and they hugged. The site of small Alice hugging her brother made me wish I had had a brother or sister too.
Alice smiled gently and then pulled me and Edward into the dinning room. There was a blue cake that read, HAPPY BIRTHDAY EDWARD and blue party hats everywhere.
“Why’d you get a cake if your not going to eat it?” I asked Alice confused. She shrugged. Edward answered.
“It’s the thought that counts.” he said. I smiled.
“Your right.”
An hour later, we were gathered around the cake, lighting the candles. Everyone was wearing blue party hats. Edward looked especially funny wearing it as the family gathered around the cake.
“Make a wish Edward!” squealed Alice.
“Blow out the candles.” said Esme. Edward nodded. He took a deep breath, glancing at me quickly and then blowing out the candles. Everyone clapped and yelled.
“Woohoo Edward! 107! You’re an old man now!” boomed Emmett who was wiping some cream of Rosalie’s nose that had flown of while Edward had blown the candles.
Esme came over to hug her son as did Carlisle. Jasper and Alice were already cleaning up and offered me the cake, but I refused.
“Come on Bella! You’re the only one who can really eat it.” She held out the whole cake to me. I cracked the smile. Vampires couldn’t actually eat it. They had to cough up anything but blood.
Finally, Edward worked his way over to me. I smiled happily.
“Happy Birthday Edward! Do you feel any older?” I asked. He grinned thoughtfully.
“Just a little.”
He leaned in, putting his mouth next to my ear.
“Do you want to know what I wished for?” His icy breath made me shiver and send shocks all though my body. I reached up so I could reach his ear and hesitated.
“No, it won’t come true then.” I said. I came back down to the ground and he looked thoughtfully at me.
“You sure?” he said so softly I had to strain to hear him. I deliberated.
“No way, it’s better a surprise.” He grinned. I wrapped my hands around his waist, feeling the coldness under the cloth. I sighed happily. I was so content. I looked up at my 106 year old, now 107 year old vampire boyfriend smiling as he kissed my forehead. All I wanted was to spend the rest of eternity with him, and I’m pretty sure, that he had wished too.
