We had a very nice evening with my sister in law yesterday. I left work early to go to the gym, then had a voicemail from her asking if she could come to dinner. Jon had already arrived at the gym by that point and didn’t have his phone with him, so I hunted him down in the gym to find out what he wanted to eat. We agreed on spaghetti with garlic bread, and he promised to pick up the bread from the store on his way home after his workout. I sent Steph a text to let her know what time dinner would be ready and then went home and started to cook.
The first problem was that neither of my skillets were clean, making browning the meat a challenge unless I wanted to use our Foreman grill (which would be just as much of a challenge as washing the pan for this particular meal), so I washed one of the skillets and proceeded to get water all over my pregnant belly. I didn’t mind it too much until the water got cold. Then it was a bit uncomfortable.
I have this bad habit of making too much spaghetti when we have guests, and this time was no exception. I didn’t realize just how much pasta I’d put in until it was all in the colander.
I told Steph to show up at 6, and around 5:50, Jon showed up with the french bread. I mix margarine with Johnny’s caesar garlic spread seasoning and make garlic bread that way. It turns out perfect at 350 for about 10 minutes. Steph showed up at 6 and dinner was all ready a few minutes past that. The spaghetti turned out really good. The store was having a sale on Prego (hehehe) spaghetti sauce, so I had two jars in the pantry. I didn’t feel up to making my own sauce this time around.
We watched repeats of House, the most recent episode of the Office and Family Guy, and a couple of episodes from my season 1 of Prison Break. Our TV is so huge, I swear. It’s only a matter of time before we get surround sound, and I swear Jon wouldn’t be completely opposed to some
theater seating. I keep intending on taking pictures of our house now that most things are put away…must do that soon.
Other than me falling asleep for two hours, everything was great! It’s nice to have family close by.
