Germinating experiment I

Feb 08, 2012 15:16

I grew my first full out garden last year and it was quite a success considering I didn't know what the hell I was doing. Green thumb, I had not. After many hours researching online and mornings spent at the city recycling depot (free compost!) things actually grew! Better yet, the things I grew were edible!

Now, it's only February, but the gardening bug has already awaken in me. I've been on gardening forums, where people are generous enough to send free seeds from their own gardens to me. I just send them a self-addressed-stamped-envelope and they send seeds. How cool is that? I have some seeds of my own, which I collected from my garden last year; various tomatoes, eggplant, different kids of pepper as well as seeds I collected from vegetables purchased from the store. Before gardening seasons really sets off, I decided to do a germination test...

Day one

Four days later

The seeds were put on a damp and folded paper towel, then put into a zip baggie near the vent to warmth. I can't believe the pumpkin seed grew! It was from our Halloween jack-o-lanterns last year. Can't wait to see the rest of the seeds start to spout! I went to a bulk food place last weekend and bought their 12 bean soup mix along with dill seeds and coriander seeds. I'm going to do a germination test on those too. :)
