okay, I am working on a deal for prefolds, $10 for a dozen, so I'm happy (or will be, if all works out well). I'll get 5 dozen and be more than covered (well, I hope so anyways) for the first few month (assuming I can use them up to maybe 15 lbs or so? I am still speaking to the woman

I love Bummis Super Whisper Wraps (BSWW) - they are my prefered covers by far. I also have Swaddlebees which are nice too. i have some of those one-size covers and they really work better for bigger babes, IMO - they are really very wide. they fit my son and he is 2yrs, 24lbs.
that said, i like wool the best. and i didnt have money for "real" wool covers, but i made many out of felted sweater arms and yarn drawstrings. Got the sweaters from the thrift store and for $2 plus 15m labor i got woolie pants. then lanolized with Lansinoh nipple lanolin.
I dont know how you feel about gently used diapers (prefolds, covers, and wool) but my son is out of most of his and i am not having more kids. Lots and lots of infant prefolds (barely used) premium prefolds, wool pants and shorties, covers..... LMK cause i can cut an awesome deal! no worries if not, i just want someone who needs them to get them :)
oh, and i never rinsed BF poo out of the diapers, just threw em in and washed em. i only rinsed after solids were introduced. and i never really had a blow-out issue, the covers do just as good a job (and IMO a better job) as disposables.
