I am just missing everyone important in my life right now. Geographic separation shouldn't be a big deal, but it creates this loneliness that simply feels unnecessary. That's the paradox I suppose - it's unnecessary but unavoidable. That's one thing that I dislike about the nature of today's sprawling society. People are always moving. When I think about the early family television shows - Andy Griffith Show, etc. - I am always drawn to the consistency of community. If your pa is in Mayberry, and you're raised there, then that's where you settle as well. Opie is not likely to graduate high school, and surprise Andy with a plan to move to Boston and start his own life. "Well, Pa, I'll be home for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Well, until I get married, and then I'll have to split that time with the in-laws. Take care now."
It seems like with the freedom to explore and move around, chasing dreams, that we sacrifice the advantages of forming relationships with and within a single community.
