Colouring Tutorial ~
Long time without writing tutorials for me! I had been kinda frustrated because lately icons weren't turning out the way I wanted them to :/ But this one in particular, I really liked.
Hence, I'm writing this tutorial because I spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out a way to style yellowish pictures. This kind of color and lightning is quite common in music videos -or so I've noticed- so make sure the images you use look like my base image. Yellowish and dark. There aren't many steps anyway. I encourage you to ask if you have any doubts about this, because I HATE screencapping everything and I'm not that graphic. But I consider my steps quite easy. So yep. Enough ranting, let's get started.
This is my base.
1. First, you'll need to make your image much clearer. To achieve this, duplicate your layer (ctrl+j) and set it to Screen %100. I did this twice to get to the image I wanted. You can do this as many times as you need for your pic, but make sure details don't get lost and faces don't get too white. Icons are nice when they are very detailed and sharp.
2. Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Hue/Saturation. Pull the Master Saturation to +30.
3. Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Selective Color. Insert the following values:
Reds: -100, 0, 0, +100
Yellows: 0, 0, -100, 0
Cyans: -100, +100, 0, +100 (OPTIONAL. SOME PICTURES DON'T NEED MODIFIED CYANS)
Blacks: 0, 0, 0, +30
4. Layer -> New Fill Layer -> Solid Color -> #0E9EE8. Set it to Soft Light at %100 opacity.
5. Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Color Balance. UNCHECK 'Preserve Luminosity', and insert these values:
Shadows: -35, 0, +35
Midtones: -8, 0, -16
Highlights: +27, 0, -13
6. Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Hue/Saturation. Insert these values:
Master: 0, +20, 0
Reds: 0, +20, 0
Yellows: 0, -60, 0
And voilá, you're done with the coloring. You can now add text, brushes, blah blah. In my example I used a font called 'National First Font Dotted' from SearchFreeFonts.
