Last Christmas they fought. This Christmas she gave him a box. Last year, their failure in preventing Kisshin’s revival left them all in humiliation, disappointment, and tears. It became an everyday habit for the boy to tell himself that this year he would muster up enough strength and courage to face his fears. Once beaten and twice cried is the scenario that would repeat again if they were unsuccessful.
With the memories of last year placed in the back of his mind, Kid’s eyes meet hers for the eighth time this night; certainly that would be considered as romantic but not in his case, for the ill-fated successor of Death City, his OCD would be the reason to this little action.
This was Christmas, and on Christmas you tell the truth. The truth was that Kid’s OCD had nothing to do with how many times he would gaze over to see the work of art in his eyes, nor did it have anything to do with the way he noticed the symmetric shape she possessed couldn’t compare to her smile, gentleness towards others, and how her lips draw him in.
Kid could tell her anything but this. All of that was too much for the daughter of a death scythe, who caused some kind of trauma with romance in her life, to handle.
“Merry Christmas, Maka.” Was what Kid could say.
Perhaps next year, but until then this would be sufficient.
