Let me start by saying this was the craziest game I have ever seen…if only I could have been there. Honestly, I don't even know where to begin…but…
1st inning
Vlad came up in the first inning and hit a home run. 1-0 Angels
2nd inning
This is where the game got weird…Tejada got an infield single. Javy Lopez came up and hit what should have been a home run to left-center field…what happened was Ersty ran over, jumped,
but missed the ball…Tejada, who had run to second, thought Ersty had made the catch and retreated to first, passing Lopez on the base path…Lopez was awared a single and an RBI, but was ruled out. The worst part was that on the play, Ersty came down akwardly and it looked like he must have messed up his knee or hamstring (he's had problems with his hammies before), but after taking a minute to get up…was absolutely fine, thankfully…now the worst partwas that they showed his fall about times…not to mention the times they showed it later in the game. YIKES!! 1-1 tie.
3rd inning
With Izturis at third and Figgy at first, Figgy decides to steal second (at the wrong time), the Orioles pitch out and throw to second…Figgy puts on the brakes retreats to first, after the throw to the first baseman, Izzy breaks for home beating the throw…woohoo! 2-1 Angels
5th inning
With Izzy once again on base (second this time), Adam rips a double of his own driving in the run…but while sliding into 2nd he rolled over Brian Roberts ankle…
it looked ugly, but Roberts pulled out of it alright. Then, Vlad drove Adam home with an RBI single. In the bottom of the inning, Jeff Conine (who was batting about .053 coming into the series) hits a home run. 4-2 Angels
7th inning
Vlad comes up yet again and belts one to dead center field!! 5-2 Angels
8th inning
Ersty lead off with a double, Jeff received his first intentional walk of his career, then Ersty scored on a squeeze bunt by Izzy (who as you may have noticed had quite a game…he also knocked down a ball to start a 6-4-3 double play). Figgy then came up to bat and showed a little power with a 3-run home run. 9-2 Angels
With the 7 run lead, the Angels let Vlad sit out the rest of the game and moved Rivera to left, leaving Lackey batting in the 3 hole…luckily he didn't actually hit, but it was still interesting.
Watch where you're putting those hands...LOL
John pitched a really good game...he was not perfect, giving up "2" home runs, but was definitely locked in...I'm sure, under normal circumstances he would have pitched the 9th, having only thrown 90 pitches, but since Frankie hadn't pitched in 6 days, he needed the work.
The only negatives of the day were the "injuries" to Timmy and Frankie who both left the games early...luckily neither was seriously injured...Tim "tweaked" (their word, not mine) his right groin and Frankie had a cramp in his hamstring and both are listed as day-to-day.
This game truly had it all…good pitching, home runs, timely hitting, good defense, a squeeze play, a double steal and a reversal of a home run…CRAZY!!
