The character of Charlie is used with love and not based on any particular muse.
"Every home should have an official hugger- no questions, no comments, just hugs. A few good hugs can take away acres of lonesome."
-David and Leigh Eddings
Most people thought Sally was the 'hugger' of the Brown family. The truth was...Sally was often much too self-concerned to worry about anyone else to see if they needed a hug.
When their mother dropped the lasagna she'd spent two hours putting together...it had been Charlie who had gone over to her and hugged her.
The morning their father had come home early, his worn face fatigued with worry, it had been Charlie who had given him a quick, one-armed hug and said 'It's okay, Dad. The lay-offs won't last forever.'
And, each and every scrape and cut that Sally had got over the years had wielded a hug from her big brother. When she'd broken up with Linus and hidden in her room, he'd come to tell her she was a complete dope and he'd hugged her until she was ready to let go. The day she'd finally graduated from nursing school, Charlie had been there with that reassuring hug.
It was always comforting, always there, and she was forever grateful for Charlie's hugs being there...even if she never bothered to say so. She was sure he knew.
