Sally beamed and spread the magazines over the floor. She was sitting in front of the couch, several dozen publications opened and staring back at her. Reaching out, she grabbed a page and ripped it out.

Carefully, she placed it in a bright pink folder labeled 'BABBOO & SALLY = <3 4-EVER ( Read more... )

He was completely ignoring everything she had to say. There was a hockey game on television that, to be honest, was boring, but it was better than listening to her prattle on about wedding cakes and dolls.

"Yeah, whatever you want Sally," he said, not even glancing down at her papers. "It's your wedding, I'm just along for the ride."

And then the last thing she said clicked. "No." He turned and looked at her in horror. "Mariah Carey has no place in our wedding!"

Sally frowned up at him, leaning into 'full-pout' mode. "But, Babboo, I've dreamt of walking down the aisle to that song for years!"

"Hmm..." She cocked her head to the side, thinking. "Maybe if we just got the instrumental version? But, you know...with the 'do do do do do's. Those are important, Babboo! They're part of my dream."

Sally stood up and began twirling around, 'do do do do do'ing...in front of the telelvision. She wondered how long it would take him to either sigh and get up to go to the store or glare at her. Either way, her Babboo was so cute when he's irritated.

He tried his best to ignore her. His head tilted to the left, then to the right, and finally he gave up.

With a sigh, he shut the TV off and just watched Sally. It still made no sense to him exactly what would change just because there would be a ring on her finger but she looked happy. And excited.

"Your dream involves pink monkeys and baby unicorns," he pointed out, raising an eyebrow. "I'm still saying no."

"I never said baby unicorns," she countered, then stopped and looked off for a moment, deep in thought. Her face lit up and she looked over at him, her mouth dropped open. "Ohmigosh, Babboo! Baby UNICORNS! BABIES! We could get teensy little stuffed ones to hang on the sides of the chairs! You know...how they ususally do with flowers?"

Sally bounced and clapped her hands, then waved his concerns about the song off with a swing of her curly hair. "Hmm...I suppose if you don't want Mariah, we could always go with Kool and the Gang's Celebration."

An involuntary shudder went through his body at that. "Jesus, Sal. You know, most weddings have like..Bach, or Mozart or whatever. There's string noises you can march to the beat of or something." And then a horrible thought went through his head.

"You're not going to demand all those requisite dances at the reception are you? The bride/groom, mother-in-law/groom, father-in-law/bride, mom/son, dad/daughter, whatever?" His eyes were just pleading to her to say no, but he had a sinking feeling that wasn't what she'd say.

Sally was a lot of things, but completely insensitive wasn't one of them. She knew about his issues with his parents.

Dancing away from the television, now to the silent tune of 'Celebration' in her head, she shook her head. "No...I was thinking we could just do the party thingee with cake and you taking my garter off with your teeth, and if people want to dance, they can. I do want to dance with you, though...and at least once with Charlie. But, nothing written in stone." She smiled happily and twirled around, calling out a 'WHOO HOO!' to the music in her head. "I want it to be fun."

"Okay." He felt relieved at that. Plus, he didn't want to mention to Sally that he was slightly worried about stepping on her mom's feet. Now how embarassing would that be?

Just watching Sally dance to the music in her head, made he want to laugh. She was just so infectious. With a silly grin on his face, he stretched his arms out.

"Come here, pretty girl, and let me show you how much I love you."

Laughing joyfully, Sally stopped twirling and danced her way over to him, then moved into his arms and gave him a kiss.

She snuggled in close, seeing no need to mention that Mariah Carey was once again playing in her head...or that she knew in October that she'd be skipping down the aisle to the sweet sound of 'do do do do do do do'.

"I like it when you call me 'pretty girl'," she said simply, then kissed him again. She hugged him, looking over his shoulder at her hand, adorned with her beautiful pink diamond ring...on her pretty pink sofa, and smiled. "I know how much you love me," she said, "but you can show me anytime, Babboo."

"Sounds good." He placed a kiss on the tip of her nose and smiled.

"And you can too. By not playing Mariah Carey at our wedding. Seriously, Sally. I will give in to this godawful pink colour scheme, and I'll even consider the barbie dolls doing dirty things to each other on the wedding cake but no to Mariah. She doesn't stand for love, she stands for fake tits, and tight clothes, and you're so much better than that."

Sally let her head fall back and sighed loudly. "The Barbie and Ken dolls are not going to be doing dirty things on the cake, Babboo!" She leaned her head back up and pouted dramatically.

The last part of his statement clicked in, and she tried to hold back a smile. "Weeeeeeelllll...okay. It's a 'Celebration' wedding, then," she said brightly. "And, you can't say anything about that! Kool and the Gang don't have fake boobies!"

"They have afros," he mumbled unhappily. "Seriously. Neither song is good. Think of another one. Come on."

Grabbing his laptop awkwardly -- it was hard when a girl was sitting on his lap -- he loaded up youtube and started clicking around on music.

"I really think we should do an instrumental piece for that. Kool and the Gang can come during the reception."

Sally shifted slightly to make room for the laptop and looked at the screen with him. "What about I Just Called To Say I Love You? We could pretend like we're calling each other!" She held her thumb and pinky finger up like a phone and pretended to call him. "Hee! See?"

At the look on his face, she rolled her eyes and thought hard. "Can You Feel The Love Tonight? There's a non-wordy version of that and it's still super pretty. Plus, I'd float down the aisle like a princess! OOOOH! Babboo, let's do THAT one!" She bounced a bit.

He chuckled and tried to steady her. "Okay, okay." He threw up his hands in mock defeat. "If that's what you want, that's what you want."

Hugging her close, he rested his chin on her shoulder. "Because this is all for you, you know that right? So you can wear your pretty pink dress, or whatever colour you want" -- he was pretty sure it'd be pink -- "and be the princess you deserve to be."

"Thank you!" Sally smiled, comfortable in his arms, and waited a long time before pulling back. "And, you just wait until you see my dress! It's perfect!"

She'd already put in the order. Glinda, the good witch of the North would have nothing on her fluffy pink dress perfection! Holding up her left hand, she giggled. "It'll match my ring!"

Happy and lost in thought, she hummed to herself for a moment, then suddenly gasped. "We...we can do the bunny hop at the reception, right, Babboo?"

He shook his head with a smile on his face. "Bunny hop? Sure. Whatever. As long as you don't have bunny ears." And I don't have to dance with you, he thought to himself.

Tightening his grasp on her, he leaned his head on her body. "Think the Great Pumpkin will show up for our wedding?"

He was joking. Kinda.

"Oh, Babboo," she said with a fond sigh, reaching up to pat his head. "If the Great Pumpkin shows up at the wedding, he can wear bunny ears."

"It would totally clash with my dress," she said seriously, snuggling closer.
