Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!

[ This girly scream just goes on and on and on. And then a BIG SPLASH.]

[Charlie had been window shopping, hands tucked in her pockets. The tug on her arm got her attention and she looks at whoever'd done it, eyes widening.] Fell in the fountain, did you?

[Without another word, Charlie's jacket is off and she's handing it over. It'll be warmer than usual. Charlie's temperature is naturally higher than most.]

[Shiemi blushes and nods in embarrassment when the pretty lady mentioned falling into the fountain. Sigh, she's such a klutz.

She blushes even more though when the other hands her jacket over, and now she almost looks like a ripe tomato. She's seriously really, reeeally conflicted on whether she should take it or not. After awhile--]

T-thank you, miss! But won't you be cold too...?

People fall into the fountain all the time. Try to not let it bother you.

[Kid, why so adorable? Charlie continues to hold the jacket out, smiling slightly.] I'm fine. It's Winter. You're soaked. You need it more than I do.

They do?

[And she feels slightly better now. At the lady's kind words, Shiemi blushes even more and she now takes the jacket from her and puts it around herself, but not before bowing her head down multiple times at the lady in gratitude.]

Thank you, miss! You're really, really kind!

[And now she extends her hands out at the woman.]

I'm -- I'm Moriyama Shiemi!! What's your name?

[There is a faint smile at being called kind. Not that she wasn't, she was just odd with compliments on occasion.] Charlie McGee. It's nice to meet you.

[Charlie glances toward the fountain a moment before looking at Moriyama again.] Where were you before you fell into the fountain?

It's nice to meet you too, Ms. Charlie!

[Shiemi smiles at the kind lady, before she follows the other's gaze to the fountain and then looks down to the ground, a sad look replacing that smile.]

Well... I was in Kyoto, Japan with my friends. We were in the middle of something very important... and then for some reason I got lost and ended up falling into that fountain. Do things like that happen often here too...?

Yeah. A lot. Listen...[how to tell Shiemi this without upsetting her.] You're not in Kyoto anymore. You're not in Japan, really. You're in a pocket dimension called the City. It kind of...it exists but it exists nowhere, if that makes any sense. People are pulled here at random and sent home at random, too. And you could be here for a while, but then back home, time isn't moving at all and you return to the exact moment you left.

[Charlie McGee: Nice enough but her social skills are a bit problematic.]

[Shiemi nods at her words -- after all, she's realized by herself that well, this wasn't really Kyoto or Japan anymore. However, for some reason she begins to find a hope in Charlie's next words.]

So I can be sent home whenever? And time isn't moving at all...?

[Ah!]

You mean, when this place decides to send me back home, I'll return to that exact same moment I disappeared, back with my friends in our important mission? [She's looking at you with a really hopeful expression on her face now, Charlie.]

Pretty much, yeah. [Charlie grins, trying to be reassuring. Even if she does hate the damn City.]

Wow, this was the easiest time I've had explaining that part of the City. Ever.

[There's still the matter of explaining the curses. Ffffuuuuu---]

I have to warn you, this place has a tendency to go a bit haywire. Things happen and people call them Curses. They don't last long. They're just annoying.

[And sometimes horrible. Does she have to talk about the horrible part? Because during the last curse, she was kidnapped by a damn statue]

Well, if that's the case, as long as I'll be able to go back to that exact same moment, it's alright! [She pauses for awhile before she looks up at Charlie with curiosity etched on her face.] Were you pulled here at random too, Ms. Charlie?

[Shiemi smiles sheepishly when the other mentions that being the easiest time she's explained about the City, though that smile quickly disappeares when she hears about this Curses.]

Curses? What kind of curses?

Yeah. I was sleeping in a hotel. Woke up in an apartment here.

[She tilts her head slightly.] Well, I've seen people Cursed to think they were related to people in the city. I've seen people turned into animals for a day. The curses never last long.

Really? How long have you been living here since then...?

[She listens closely to Charlie's words, feeling a little surprised.]

People get turned into animals? That's scary! Do people just get cursed, even when they did nothing wrong?

A few months? It took a bit for me to adjust. [And by that we mean quell her desire to set everything on fire until she was let go. Not that anything got burned.]

The Curses are equal opportunity nuisances. They happen to anyone.

[Pause.] I found the best thing to have after a Curse is a good group of people to talk to.

[Just a bit of advice.]

A few months? [She looks a little sad for her; it's understandable that it would take a bit for her, or for anyone really, to adjust after being taken from their homes without any notice.] I bet you missed home a lot...

[Shiemi looks a little troubled when Charlie mentions that the curse can happen to anyone. That meant it could happen to her anytime too!] I-- I see.

[And Shiemi totally gets what Charlie means. It's important to have a support group after all, that was what she learned for the past three and so months. And now, all of a sudden--]

Um, Ms. Charlie! Would you... would you please be my friend? It would be really nice to have someone to talk to... when you're cursed.

[Have a blushing, flustered Shiemi now.]

I miss some of it. [Now it's Charlie's turn to look sad. It's shaken off a moment later, though.] I have people I consider family here, though. So that helps.

[She blinks at the question, momentarily stunned before she grins, nodding.] Absolutely!

[That was insanely adorable. She'd be a terrible person to say no.]

[At the mention of family, a passing look of sadness appears on her face as she remembers her mother, but she quickly replaces that with a soft smile.] Family always helps.

[Shiemi gasps in delight when Charlie agrees, and she takes the other's hand in hers and smiles happily.] Thank you so much, Ms. Charlie! I promise I'll be a good friend!
