Teen Wolf Question About Stiles and His Secrets

So here's my question - When and why would Stiles ever, ever, ever tell Sheriff Stalinski about Derek?

I asked Amalthia about this and her answer is inevitably a very sweet, "I don't know! I just like it when he does!" And then she tells me to shut my piehole and go write something for her. So I will, but first I need to talk to someone about it!

Okay I can see taking a darker road on the Sheriff's reaction, but personally its not a direction I'd go as a writer. For me the legality in rl its more of a blue law. One that can and would be enforced but under certain conditions (where the under-aged person is consenting). I think its more enforced now because of a lot because of visible cases of student/teacher relationships - and when parents don't know the person and feel their child is in danger, is trying to control them stop them from seeing someone.

However and I can only go by my experience. I'm older so yes I guess my generation was a bit different. If it was only a few years it was more tolerable for someone 16/17 to date someone 19-22 where the parents know him/her, it really wasn't a problem.

Hell I had a graduating class party in a private home with the teachers there as chaperones. We had kegs and teachers drank alongside the students. In high school I dated older guys usually only 3-4 years older. Then when I was 19 I dated Dennis, he was 20 years older than me and a year older than my mom o.O

I also knew of one couple were it was switched: David dated then lived with Cari (in his mom's house). She was older than David. He was 16 when they started dating & I think when they broke up he was in his early 20's. She was at least 5 years older.)

Personally I see Stiles not telling his dad about Derek has less to do with Derek's age and more to do that Stiles knows his dad considers Derek dangerous.

Although Stiles lies to his father more are white lies/half truths. If Stiles told his dad about Derek he knows his dad would also discover that Derek's a werewolf- proving just how dangerous Derek and that's what his dad would freak out- also putting his dad in even more danger something that Stiles doesn't want to risk.

Under those circumstances I can see the sheriff doing anything he could legally (including filing charges against Derek if Stiles kept lying and or was hurt while with Derek) just to keep them apart. On the whole because the Sheriff believes he's protecting his son.

However afterwards and the Sheriff realizes that Derek would risk his life for Stiles and keep him safe- yes, I can see lots happy schmoop happening for the Stalinski family =)

Ok off to finish the laundry - yay for more TW <3

So it's a grey and moving line for a blue law. Agreed.

Stiles would lie to his Dad because Derek's a werewolf, not because of his age...Stiles is 16 and all hormones and so age, smage....good point.

I guess I'd been reading a few stories where the Dad seems to have no reaction at all, like, whatever, go ahead. And I can't see it being so casual. There was a story called Say Something where the Sheriff finds out and then absorbs Derek in his pack, so to speak, and I loved that. Even if he's nervous about Derek, he can keep Derek close and make sure things are okay.

And I'm thinking Stiles wouldn't tell his Dad about Derek, in any case, werewolf or older guy, because he knows his Dad would object on some level. But....seeing as how Stiles lives at home, the Sheriff will find out anyway, which is different than Stiles telling him.

As for the sheriff's reaction, that's where it would get interesting. He'd have some strong reactions, I think, but then...he'd think about Stiles and whether Derek is good for him. I know, I think, that he'd threaten, but in the end? Mmmmmmm....
