Part Three

Turning his mind away from this thought, he moved around Dean and Dad and got the plates and the forks and the glasses and arranged them on the table. He got the salt and pepper shakers out too, thinking that might help with the taste.

I really can't tell you exactly why, but I *sobbed* through most of this last night. My eyes are all puffy and sad today. I have loved every installation of this verse, but this one seems to have especially hit me! What a nice (if, apparently, upsetting) surprise to run across on a random scroll through my friends list!

You sobbed, really? That's amazing, and very nice of you to say. Although, yes, I'm not happy you were sad, but yes, at the same time, it makes me feel good. Thank you for that!

I'm so thrilled to be back in this 'verse again. This is another outstanding installment. You've captured the contradictions of pubescent Sammy so well: he manned up enough to take the blame and spare Dean -- a big step for him -- but at the same time he's still child enough to be oblivious to the fact that they all nearly died.
I have a soft spot for John, so I especially enjoyed how clearly we could see his terror over nearly losing the boys, and his tenderness while doctoring Sammy and making the camp spaghetti more palatable for him -- all still juxtaposed with the harsh disciplinarian that John always is.
Thank you, and please do keep this 'verse alive.

John almost took over this particular installment. Every now and then, he gets all soft and gooey inside and then...wham. I have to stop him. He's got to save his boys and be stern even though sometimes it kills him. (And me too!)

I'm so glad you enjoyed this installment, and yes, I'll keep going as long as Sam can stand it. : D

I love this 'verse so much! You capture Sammy's POV like no-one else, and Dean and John are so believable. Makes my heart ache and swell with love for all of them.

(And I really tried hard to comment on dreamwidth using openID but it said openID wasn't allowed to comment.)

I'm so sorry about the open ID thing. I'm going to change that comment, so people can leave comments if and where they'd like.

And thank you for your lovely comment! I do try to make it as real as I can; kids have such a limited view of the world, and even though Sammy is old for his years, he wasn't always the observant handsome young man we see today. : D

Aw, I loved the fishing trip. A little touch of normal before everything went downhill again. They all deserved it. I have to admit, though, I squinted through the whole fish killing. Poor fishie.

Why, oh why, did Sam go into the river?! Has he never seen Little House on the Prairie or Ronja Robbersdaughter? Bad things happen to kids in fast rivers. I knew they were going to get out alive and it still gave me shivers.

On the other hand, yay for Sam going in, because it brought us the eagerly awaited switching. :D For the record, I do feel bad for being so gleeful about it. Yes, yes, I do. Very bad. *cough*I laughed hard at Sam's dinner troubles. After everything that happened, stewed tomato chunks were the final straw. It was as if the whole sucky day could have been saved with a meal after Sam's liking, and then Dad came with tomato chunks. Obviously on purpose. I'm sure it made perfect sense to Sam, but I found it hilarious ( ... )

No, Sam has never seen Little House or Ronja Robbersdaughter. He doesn't get to watch much TV, and especially wouldn't if it's about GIRLS! So no, he doesn't get it about the river until it's too late.

Personally I think John was oblivious to the tomato issue until it, too, was too late. I think he keeps expecting Sam to be more like Dean for some reason.

Don't feel bad about enjoying the switch whipping, because if you do, then I'll have to, and I don't want to do that.

And I'm glad you liked the ending. Yes, almost snuggling. : D

You don't have to bribe me, your pleasure is my pleasure. And thank you!

Fantastic, fantastic. I felt for everyone, but oh, poor poor Sammy. :(

I saved this until I was done with my finals, and it was a wonderful reward indeed. As soon as John pulled him out, and he made that comment about maybe needing new shoes anyway... oooh, I knew it was going to be bad. And you certainly delivered.

There was even more comforting than I was expecting, in the end! I teared up a little, when John was talking to Sam under the bed.

Oh, excellent! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and that it was worth it after your finals.

John and Sam can't see eye to eye, even after the river incident, and I'm going to keep it that way as long as I can. Even though, yeah, I had to have some comfort, but not too much! : D
