Companion Love Thread

Sep 07, 2007 17:59

Further to fantasyjax's post earlier, I got to thinking about the awesomeness of the companions and how I wished there was some sort of love-in post. So I decided I really should make that myself. I'll put the names of the companions in individual comments to this entry - feel free to reply to a companion's comment with why you love them, or a moment where ( Read more... )

Liking to mix with humans long before the Doctor did.

As far back as Marco Polo she was inaugurating the grand companion institution of "intense bonding with a girlfriend/boyfriend of the week guest star of the same sex" - a vital skill for any TARDIS traveller.

The first shot of her dancing by herself in the classroom is beautiful and eerie - unearthly child, indeed. And her final scene where the TARDIS leaves her behind and she seems to turn from a little girl into an adult all at once, dropping her key into the dirt.

Susan was a child when the show started. Whatever her actual age she was a kid and that showed, but the Dalek Invasion of Earth really showed how much she'd grown. And she was brilliant. The way she'd argue with the Doctor and bonded with Barbara. I could go on for way too long here.

'Accuse us? You ought to go down on your hands and knees and thank us! Gratitude's the last thing you'll ever have or any sort of common sense either!"

Sheer Action Man awesomeness. For example, see The Space Museum.

Managed to be quite heroic and impressive while wearing a cardigan. I'm sure this is in someway a skill.

She names things ... like the monster in The Rescue, the Zarbi in Web Planet and "Chumbly" in Galaxy Four.

She's a little bundle of energy, dead excited to be off exploring and adventuring, and she works so well with One (I try not to think disturbing thoughts about how actually the age gap is centuries less than Ten and any of his companions)

She's the first to really look at the universe with complete wide-eyed wonder. To her, the journey is just pure magic, and she transforms the Doctor from a reluctant old man into her travelling companion.

Is the first companion to fly the TARDIS.

And is just generally AWESOME!

Is occasionally a bit pompous. Sticks up for what he believes in. In Empire of Glass spends much of it being flirted with by Christopher Marlowe.
