thursday night i sat on the ground in a tank top and shorts pressing my cell phone to my ear and struggling to hear amidst the noise and chaos of cornerstone. "thank you for making these last six months the most incredible months of my life. i love you, kelli jo." i just smiled so big and shook my head to gain agreement from the silent stars. "it's true," i told them, "he's amazing."
and as i was driving three hours and forty-five minutes to W. Cullom Ave. he calls me and asks, "what are you doing? Where are you driving?" so in an ill-attempt to maintain my surprise i mutter incoherently as my beating heart gets faster the closer i come. all i could think of when he said, "these next two weeks are going to go too too slow until i see you," is, "well . . . i think it's going to go a lot faster than you think."
so i pull up to his house, still shaking from the drive :) and make my way to the back yard. the first few minutes were hugs and shouts of surprise from all of his friends until i finally just yelled, "ok, but where is my boyfriend?!" i walk into the house red-faced, still anxiety-ridden (both from driving and from surprising him). He turns around and his mouth drops open--completely silent. that's the look i hope to see if i marry this kid one day!!!
and so for the rest of the night, it's tons of friends and explanantions, mr. roboto and ice cream sandwiches, holding tight tight tight and smiles from across the room. at two o'clock, as i laid in his arms, on the floor in his room, he reached over and pinched me saying, "i just wanted to make sure you were here. kelli, you're such a dream come true."
when i was 16-years-old, my friends and i decided that we would marry the boys that taught us how to drive stick shift. it seems to be an appropriate task for the groom-to-be. well then i got a stick shift car and my mom ended up teaching me how. driving my truck one day and watching him play with the shifter, i told him this off-hand. he pulled into his church parking lot yesterday, stopped the car, and told me to get out. so he gets in the passenger seat and i in the driver's. he turns to me smiling and says, "i'm going to teach you how to drive stick." i smiled so big and let him coach me every step of the way as i re-learned how to drive and gently reminded him of the steps we forgot. so after my successful session, he leaned over to hug me and whispers, "so now i have a chance, right?"
i can't believe how much i love love love this boy!
