A/N: This is pure nonsense, i don’t know what made me write it, it just seemed like the thing to do at the time :P And it ended up being shippy of its own accord, i had nothing to do with that. Ten and Donna just demand to be shipped!
The Doctor walked into Donna’s bedroom uninvited with a smile on his face. She was wrapped up under the covers with a book in her hand, deeply immersed in it and not noticing when he came in. He dropped a black velvet box onto her lap, at which she jumped from his unexpected appearance, her book flying out of her hand and landing on the floor.
“Are you trying to give me a heart attack or what?” she asked breathlessly, one hand over her racing heart.
“Sorry,” came his feeble apology. He reached to pick up the fallen book. “I’ll knock next time.”
She glared at him, trying to steady her breathing, and looked at the black box. “What’s this for?”
“I thought you might like it,” he said, sitting on the edge of her bed. “I found it among some things today when I was doing a bit of tidying up. No idea where I got it from. Go on then, have a look.”
Donna raised an eyebrow in his direction and picked up the box. She gave him one more look before opening it. Her breath caught as she saw what was inside it. A diamond necklace sparkled up at her, its teardrop pendant glinting in the light of the room. She touched the necklace delicately, running her fingers over the diamonds embedded on it.
“It’s beautiful,” she gasped. The Doctor grinned at her response, clearly happy she liked his present. “Help me put it on?” she asked him, getting off of the bed and heading to the mirror.
“It would be my pleasure,” he replied, following her. He took the necklace from her and stood behind her to put it on. Donna grabbed hold of her hair and raised it up so he could have better access to her neck. “There we go,” he said, fastening the clasp securely. He let his fingers linger for a moment on her back before pulling away reluctantly.
Donna looked in the mirror at herself and put her hands over the necklace once more as tears came to her eyes. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever received. She abruptly turned around and threw her arms around the Doctor in gratitude. “Thank you,” she spoke in his ear. “I love it, i just love it!”
He returned her hug, holding on to her tightly. “And I love...,” he started to say hesitantly. “I love that you love it,” he finished lamely. Releasing his hold on her, he held her at arm’s length so he could admire the diamonds resting on her neck. Well, so he could really admire her. “It looks lovely on you,” he said, causing Donna to blush.
He stole another glance at the necklace on Donna, thinking of what it would be like if that necklace was the only thing she was wearing, like the girl in Titanic, when he noticed a red rash quickly forming under where the piece of jewelry lay.
“Donna, your neck!”
But before Donna could glance in the mirror to see the rash spreading to her chest, she gasped, froze and collapsed, the Doctor catching her before she hit the floor.
