The last thing the Doctor expected when he paid a visit to 13 Bannerman Road was to be ganged up on by two of the most strong-minded and independent women he had ever met, Donna Noble and Sarah Jane Smith. He should have seen this coming.

He sat in the living room with the women and Sarah Jane’s son, Luke, listening to them as they chatted. To his dismay, he was the current topic of their conversation.

“Yea, he’s always trying to tell me what I can and can’t do, or what must and must not be,” Donna rambled on to her new found friend. “Didn’t even give me the choice to die when I was the DoctorDonna. Just wiped my memories without asking and dumped me back in Chiswick with my mother to live the same old boring life I hate so much.”

Both Donna and Sarah Jane turned in his direction to shoot him not so nice glares. The Doctor tried not to cower under their stern gaze.

“I know what you mean,” replied Sarah Jane, her eyes still on him. “I remember when I first met the Doctor. He ordered me to make him coffee. Ha! I for one was certainly not making coffee for anyone, least of all an alien who bossed women around demanding things. He should learn to make his own coffee! Oh and don’t get me started on how he drops people off back home like nothing has happened. He didn’t even take me home properly. I ended up in Aberdeen instead!”

“In case no one has noticed, I’m still in the room,” piped up the Doctor.

It was like he was invisible to them or something.

“And I do know how to make my own coffee, thank you very much,” he added with a pout.

“Oh hush you,” they said in unison.

Luke tried to stifle a laugh as he saw his mother and Donna scold the legendary Doctor, saviour of the universe. This time it looked like it was the Doctor himself who needed saving from the wrath of two women combined.

“Tough luck, mate,” Luke whispered to him as he stood. “You’re not getting out of this one.” He looked as his mother and said, “Mum I’m off to see Clyde, be back later.”

The Time Lord looked at him with pleading eyes. He didn’t want to be left alone with these two but Luke was soon out the door. He shook his head in disbelief. This was almost as bad as when Donna had met Martha for the first time.

“Bet he walks around acting like he knows everything, doesn’t he Donna?”

“You have no idea. And he wears a silly pair of glasses just to look a bit cleverer. He doesn’t even need them for God’s sake!”

No, this was definitely worse than when Donna and Martha met. A lot worse. He wished they would fight over him or something, like Sarah Jane had done with Rose. He had enjoyed that and wouldn’t mind something similar happening again, especially if it placed him in the ladies’ good books.

He would never have imagined it. A former companion and his most recent, so alike in many ways. Both were obviously brilliant but the two of them were also bold and brave, not to mention they had sharp tongues, quick to tell him off about something or other. Like right now, they were pointing out his flaws left, right, and center.

And yet, on the other hand, they were so different. Where Sarah Jane was always full of confidence, for most of her life Donna had lacked it. While Sarah Jane had once loved him (it wasn’t his fault he was so darn attractive no matter which reincarnation he was), Donna made sure that they were nothing more than friends.

The Doctor soon got lost in his thoughts as the women continued to chat. He remembered the days when he used to travel with Sarah Jane. Yes, she had been a very good companion. So compassionate and caring. Donna was the same way now, if only for her tough exterior that overshadowed it sometimes.

He was brought from his recollections when he picked up the name of a certain immortal man.

“Sorry about the whole pushing-you-out-of-the-way-to-get-to-hug-Jack thing, Sarah Jane. But you know, he is quite the charmer.”

“He certainly is,” Sarah Jane nodded her head in agreement.

The Doctor groaned. This was just what he needed, them praising Jack of all people.

“I’m much more charming than Jack.”

Donna rolled her eyes as Sarah Jane chuckled.

“Right, Spaceman, whatever you say.”

“But I am!” he cried indignantly.

The ladies only laughed louder.

“Charming my left foot!” Donna said. “Sarah Jane, you should have been there when the Doctor and I first met. We were on a rooftop on my wedding day and he was going on about me not being special or clever.”

“He didn’t!”

“He certainly did! I could have slapped him! Actually, that day I did slap him. Twice!” She smiled at the memory.

“Good for you!” Sarah Jane said in delight. “Come on, Donna. I’ll make some tea and you can tell me all about it.”

The two women stood and headed for the kitchen, their laughter fading as they left the room.

The Doctor looked around the empty room and heaved a sigh. He made a silent promise to himself that never again was he going to put Donna and Sarah Jane within ten feet of each other. It was only a recipe for disaster.

Soon the sounds of more laughing reached his ears. It was going to be a long afternoon.
