Snow. Trudged out to Vanesa's last night at around 10:00pm after the storm had subsided because we had been curt with each other on the phone and I realized I hadn't wished her a happy Valentine's day. I suit up and call her about halfway to her house to see if she's still up. She gives me her usual "I'm going to kill you" which I take as a term of endearment, though she assures me it's not. The average snowfall had been about a foot of snow, but the high winds made walking through the drifts pretty crazy, there were patches of bare ground and hidden piles of two feet worth of snow. A few other folks were out walking as well the smart ones were skiing down the streets or had snowshoes. Kate told me earlier that her and Ben had skied over to the bar earlier during the full fledged storm. Arrived, said what I needed to say and was driven home against my will. Had to shovel out Vanesa's car when it got stuck pulling away from my apartment. Figured I had done enough to call it a day and went to bed.

Now I'm up, classes are over, a test is almost certainly failed (turns out I know a lot less about French Burgundian popular fashion than I know about Greek or Roman fashions) and vacation that seems monolithic from my skewed perspective but will ultimately seem dwarfish when I'm on the other side of it. Friday I leave with Vanesa, Simon and Mouna to go down to Portsmouth, NH to eat at a really expensive restaurant, sleep in a really nice hotel, and go for "Breakfast and a Milkshake" at the Friendly Toast the next morning. Respite, I believe is the term to be used. The conflict in question is between Man and His Environment.

Now to go shovel more snow and await the arrival of David Hirtle with books.
