She used to be so happy.
A little girl with wings to fly.
She was her mother's pride &joy.
Her daddy was her hero.
Her goals were real &plenty,
&in her heart she knew she would reach them.
She was in love with herself &the world around her.
... A tiny dancer in bows &lace.
The curtain goes up, all eyes on her.
She put on that smile &she danced.
... she g l o w e d.
A rose in her parent's eyes.
Butterflies filled her tummy
when that little boy held her small hand in his.
... first love.
Life seemed so perfect &easy then.
What has happened?
That same girl, now so sad.
Those wings of hers left broken.
She no longer feels she's her mother's pride &joy.
It seems now all she does is dissapoint her.
Her goals still plenty, but seem so out of reach.
She does not love herself.
Always tired, worthless, &cynical.
The world around her is so cruel &fake.
She has no idea who to trust.
Still a dancer.
Bows &lace have turned to mini-skirts &too much make-up.
The curtain goes up,
But she wishes everyone would just stop looking at her.
This imperfect m e s s before their eyes.
That smile that once glowed hardly ever graces her face.
She is beautiful but she can't see it.
Once a rose in her parent's eyes,
Now they are pricked by her thorns
when they try to get close.
Butterflies never fill her tummy
Because she won't let herself get attached to those boys
-- they'll only hurt her in the end.
Love: What's that?
She can do without.
There is no one in this world she can trust.
She's realized no one really cares or ever did.
Sure they can pretend, they're all actors on this stage.
But they don't mean it, they never will.
Life's not perfect.
There's no such thing as perfection.
