Character Information

General
Canon Source: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Canon Format: Anime
Character's Name: Shirley Fenette
Character's Age: 18

What form will your character's NV take? A compact pink flip-phone, slightly modified to have an obvious video camera function. Holograms would be broadcast out the back, via a small circular output module.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Canonically speaking, Shirley has Lelouch's Geass placed on her - a form of mind control, essentially, compelling the affected to do something at any cost - put on her towards the end of her role in the story commanding her "Don't die." As I plan on playing her with the Geass active, this will make her remarkably focused on self-preservation if it comes down to it; if it is a choice between someone else's life and her own, she will flee without a second thought. A similar command manifests in Suzaku in the form of NINJA SPIN KICKS and DODGING NUCLEAR STRIKES, but such silliness will not be utilized in Shirley's case. (Mostly.)

Other than that, the only "ability" one could consider Shirley to have is being fit and in-shape; that, and the ability to repeatedly crush on a terrorist ringleader.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? As Shirley's abilities are non-superhuman (save for maybe her crushing on everyone's favorite (regi/patri/famili)cidal maniac [because seriously how do you do that that many times]), the dormant ability I'd like to give her is essentially slowly becoming Angelic in a near stereotypical way, with the CLAMP art of Shirley as an angel as the inspiration. A few examples of how this would manifest is as follows:

-Shirley arrives. As time passes, she begins to get frequent headaches and/or nausea, culminating in an eventual high fever and the growth of white wings (see canonical art, linked below). This would be largely similar to the experience of gaining wings in Haibane Renmei - an unpleasant affair all around, in short. However, from that point on, Shirley would have wings. They would be flight incapable for quite some time, as they'd be brand new, but over the course of time they would eventually allow her to glide slowly and finally fly. In concession to this, she would arrive at a normal weight in SP, and slowly get inexplicably lighter as her power progressed; eventually, despite looking roughly the same, she'd be incredibly light in order to allow her wings to get her aloft easily. (This would have the slight disadvantage of making her prone to gusts of wind, or easily knocked over.)

-After the wings settle in, a gentle aura of light would begin to grow around her, finalizing in a halo above her head. This, unlike the wings, would be a relatively peaceful process - save for a severe problem with static electricity from that point on, shocking her on metal and possibly shorting her communicator at random.

-After the wings and halo, she might begin to learn a (relatively weak) healing ability - nothing like broken bones or regeneration, but able to at least relieve pain in others and healing cuts/lacerations. Still no cure for the common cold.

-Theoretically, she would eventually wield a sword of light (or flame, for a more Biblical approach?) and armor in times of distress. Naturally, as Shirley is not a trained fighter or experienced in what it's like to move around in plate, this would result in a more protected, yet very clumsy fighter. Even as she grew used to these accoutrements, she would likely never be able to fight as effectively as any trained character, or even most who were experienced in the art of warfare. She'd essentially amount to a healthy, in-shape average girl who was given a flaming sword and celestial armor - wonderful gear, but certainly not an expert with it.

I realize that although Siren's Pull does not restrict most powers, all these combined do seem somewhat powerful, so I would like to reacknowledge that these would not be used with the intent of 'powergaming' in mind. Even at her best, Shirley would be no better at this sort of thing than a normal (well, flight-and-healing-capable) person would be; this will not grant her superhuman strength or combat prowess in any way. She might be significantly more viable in a fight than an average girl her size and ability, but against the Darkness and others she'd be nowhere near invulnerable. Combine that with a tendency to flee instead of confronting monsters (aided by her otherworldly compulsion to not die) and I feel she's still completely viable.

Weapons: An eight-bullet handgun with six shots remaining - two are conspicuously missing from the barrel.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Shirley Fenette was an average Britannian high school girl. She had a father who commuted over to Narita for work, and a mother who stayed home as a simple housewife. It was a simple, loving family, and Shirley was content in it. They were well off enough to send Shirley to Ashford Academy, and things were happy.

When she was sixteen, she was the unfortunate witness to a car accident. As everyone stood around and gawked, the man responsible began to scream at the one he had hit. However, in the middle of the crowd, a young Britannian youth stood apart from everyone else - Lelouch Lamperouge, her classmate. With the same vaguely bored expression on his face, he managed to defuse the situation. It was at this point that the beginnings of a crush started to form, and life went on as normal.

Skip ahead one year. Zero and his Black Knights are an established terrorist presence - one that Shirley has a somewhat neutral opinion on. They are the ones responsible for many attacks, but at the same time Zero represents justice. He is the one responsible for Shirley's life, after a hotel-jacking incident, and she is beginning to question whether he really deserves the mantle he's been given.

It is, of course, at this point that things take a turn for the worse. After a rather large conflict between the Britannian army and the Black Knights at Narita, a landslide occurs, killing - among many others - Shirley's father. In her confusion that day, she tries to turn to Lelouch for comfort, even going so far as to steal a kiss through her tears. She apologizes the next day, stating that it shouldn't have happened and that both of them should just forget about it, before running off - leaving Lelouch behind.

The same day, Viletta Nu reveals certain information she's collected - proving that Lelouch might be affiliated with the Black Knights. Hesitant to believe her after losing someone close to her already, Shirley decides to follow Lelouch out that night. She loses sight of Lelouch, but witnesses a colossal battle. In the chaos, Zero's Knightmare Frame is taken out, and she is able to peek inside the escape pod. Who should she see but the masked one himself - Zero?

And what should she find, but his own loaded gun, laying down at her feet?

Picking it up, she tries to confront her own emotions. She can take care of the person who'd killed her father, she can end these attacks - and the mask falls off, revealing a bloodied Lelouch. Viletta Nu, who has been following Shirley this entire time, makes it to his body, laughing at the idea of her imminent promotion and Lelouch's execution. This sets something off in Shirley, and without thinking, she fires at Viletta.

When the impact of what she's done finally hits her - she has shot a Britannian officer, she has murdered someone - she returns home to write down exactly what she knows before visiting the memorial for those who died in Narita. Her roommate returns home early, though, and Shirley crumples the letter before hiding it to the side of her desk, wedged into the dark corners of the room. The next day, she goes to the memorial, where she is confronted by Mao - a cruel man of Chinese origin who, as she would never find out, actually was psychic through his Geass. Using the knowledge gleaned from her mind, Mao convinces Shirley that by using Zero's gun to shoot Lelouch and then herself, she can end all the chaos. Shirley, in her confusion, agrees - after all, they're both sinners by this point.

However, things are not so simple - when Lelouch finds her, she finds that she can't bring herself to pull the trigger. When he approaches her, she desperately shoots, barely grazing his arm and revealing the photos of the two of them, together. Mao, realizing that Shirley is useless as a puppet, leaves, and Lelouch and Shirley share a moment. At its end, Lelouch promises Shirley that he can make her forget the painful memories - and activates his Geass. Shirley returns from her depression, no longer remembering the woman she shot or the boy she liked being Zero, but at a cost - she no longer remembers Zero, or the boy behind the mask, at all.

Half a year later, while cleaning her room, Shirley discovers a crumpled piece of paper in the corner behind her desk. What she finds shocks her - Lelouch is Zero? She shot a woman? Confused beyond belief, Shirley decides to follow him once more - and gains nothing conclusive whatsoever from the process. At this point, she decides to just push the matter aside.

Within days, Zero makes his move against the Tokyo Settlement - and decides to use Ashford Academy as his base of operations. As soldiers invade, along with Zero himself, Shirley makes an executive decision for her group by telling her friends to trust that Zero won't hurt them. After all, if Lelouch is Zero, then there's no way he'd hurt his friends...

...and that belief is soon shattered, as Zero quickly takes the room hostage against Suzaku. Through the chaos of the rest of the day, the Britannian army saves the day once again, and Shirley is able to retreat with her friends (save for one Nina Einstein, potential developer of the atomic bomb) to safety.

Zero is captured, and promptly executed. Nobody, save for the Emperor and Zero's captor - Suzaku, the newly appointed Knight of Seven - knows the face behind the mask. Shirley, however, soon finds that she has forgotten many things; any potential of Lelouch being Zero has vanished from her mind, and he's rejoined her class as well. She does not remember shooting Viletta (who has survived, and joined the school as a gym teacher), and she doesn't remember her "adventure" with Mao. This is all thanks to yet another Geass placed on her, this time by the Emperor of Britannia himself - owner of a Geass with control over memories.

Life goes normally for Shirley, even after Zero takes up the mantle of the enemy of Britannia once again, and things are generally happy. Halfway through the year, the President graduates, and in her graduation event Shirley successfully manages to nab Lelouch, making the two an official "couple" (according to Milly's mandate, anyway). Shirley, with the knowledge that Lelouch probably doesn't like her back, still vows to be patient and make him return her feelings. As she is walking home, Jeremiah Gottwald - receiver of the new "Geass Canceller" - activates his area-wide effect, immediately removing all standing Geasses on Shirley. Every memory of hers that had been tampered with flows back into her mind, in all their glory, and Shirley stands in shock as she realizes the truth about almost everything that has happened.

With her newfound memories, Shirley immediately decides the best course of action is informing Suzaku, the highest ranking officer she knows, of Lelouch's true identity. On the way, the duo are intercepted by Lelouch, and Shirley gets a strange idea in her head - could Lelouch and Suzaku be in cahoots? After all, they act like friends...

...but after the events of that day, that idea is shattered. When Lelouch dives off a building to grab Shirley after her fall, the orange-haired girl finally realizes that even if Lelouch is Zero, he's still Lelouch behind it all. Thanking Suzaku for his help (and never telling him the truth of what happened), Shirley goes to meet with Lelouch and to tell him that she'll back him, no matter who he is.

She never makes it all the way there - she is accosted by Rolo, whom she immediately realizes is in league with Lelouch. As she makes a confession to him, telling him that she wants to be there for Lelouch no matter who he actually is, she mentions his younger sister, Nunnally - and Rolo snaps. Shirley is not truly sure what happened in that moment, but one moment, she was talking to Rolo; the next, she was prone on the floor, several bullet holes pierced through her stomach as she slowly bled away.

Lelouch finds her on the way back down, still (barely) alive, and panics - no matter what his current relation to her, she is someone he cares about. Whether as an acquaintance, a friend, or a significant other is irrelevant; as she bleeds in his arms, Lelouch activates his Geass and screams a single order:

"Don't die, Shirley!"

The Geass takes hold, but to no avail; Shirley is too far gone. As she dies, she makes one last promise: no matter how many times she dies, she'll be reborn and fall in love with him again.

At this point, Shirley closes her eyes for what should be the final time - and opens them up again, in an oddly alien baseball field in a city she has never heard of.

Point in Canon: Having been shot and killed by Rolo, Shirley Fenette wakes up in a blood-covered top and skirt on Siren's Port's baseball diamond.

Character Personality: At first glance, Shirley seems remarkably like an average high school girl. She listens to normal music, she does her homework when she gets home, and she hangs out with her friends whenever she gets the time. A second glance would reveal that this analysis was, in fact, absolutely correct. Well, only in a way; she's certainly a little different than many teenage girls.

First, she's a lot less prone to holding grudges against people and getting angry in general. (This is certainly not to say she's incapable of such things; she's most assuredly able to get irritated and panicked over certain events.) She's more than willing to give people second chances, even for the gravest of offenses, and she tries not to assume the worst about anyone.

Second, she is a firm believer in love and its many incarnations. This has many implications for her: true, she's more prone to inspirational speeches on the topic (when prompted) than the average citizen, but it also leaves her incredibly loyal to those she cares about. Being an all-around amiable person, of course, this means she has a lot of people she cares about. She has a slight tendency to place the well being of others above her own, and she instinctively tries to help people out.

Finally, she has some problems with self-esteem; nothing gigantic, as she seems to be a relatively healthy person, but she definitely has doubts about herself. It's these insecurities that allowed Mao to manipulate her so easily (combined with her confused state of mind, and the regrets she had at the time). She also has a severe tendency to second-guess herself, and to create elaborate mental scenarios showing what exactly could go wrong. These differ from any decent chessmaster's, though; instead of viewing every possible outcome and going the desirable route, Shirley will simply use her wild imagination to think about how terrible it would be if Lelouch was in love with Kallen, then Nunnally, then Suzaku, and somewhere along the line Rivalz gets involved and then it all goes to hell.

Character Plans: For the most part, interact socially. Heather, while fun, is not a huge social butterfly - she tends to keep to herself and her friends. Shirley'd be much more likely to post around, for one. In addition, the angel aspect would be loads of fun - especially for religious characters, as few as we might have, in terms of interactions. Lastly, last I checked there were two Code Geass reserves, and so we could have ~MELODRAMA EXTRAORDINAIRE~ in that fabulous CLAMP style.
