Boys Over Flowers, Hana yori Dango, Meteor Garden

Fair warning, long post is long.

I first stumbled upon Meteor Garden shortly after I watched my first drama, Mars. Meteor Garden had both Vic Zhou and Barbie Xu in it so I decided to watch it.

It's awesome. (though the second season? ...shit)

Meteor Garden was made way back in 2001 and is based off of the 1992 manga Hana yori Dango or, Boys Over Flowers. There's been an animated film, a live action movie, an anime spanning 51 episodes, a Taiwanese drama that spans two seasons and most recently a Japanese drama with two seasons and a movie.

Think of HYD as the mother of all Shojou manga.

If you're still scratching your head HYD is about Tsukushi Makino and her love hate relationship with a group of boys known as the F4. Makino is at a high ranking high school by order of her parents and is surrounded by wealthy peers who view her as dirt. She clashes with the F4 one day while defending her friend and they vow to make her life a living hell.

I would hope most people in the k-pop fandom are aware of that the Korean HYD is in it's early stages of development. There's been a lot of speculation on who's who and I've been mulling over who I would want to play each character.

Now, this isn't who should play the parts, this is who I want to play the parts. Pure fun on my end, nothing serious. :D

Tsukushi Makino (Shan Cai)
played by Mao Inoue, Barbie Xu
Kang Hye Jung

I’ve always viewed Makino as an ordinary girl with an added bit of HOLY SHIT SHE’S STUBBORN. She is, essentially, a weed that refuses to give up. She’s brash, hard headed, violent and hot tempered. Kang Hye Jung would be perfect for her, imo. At first glance she looks like an average girl, nothing special, but the more you get to know her the more you realize she’s a fucking star. Okay, obvious bias is obvious.

Tsukasa Domyoji (Dao Ming Si)
played by Jun Matsumoto, Jerry Yan
Jae Hee

There are a few essentials when it comes to playing a character as special as Domyoji. First, you need really ugly hair. Second, you need to be stupid. Third, you need to be really stupid. One of the things I like about him is that he’s not the typical leading male. He’s stupid, arrogant, selfish and rather childish yet we all still love him to pieces. Alright, alright, Jae Hee’s a bit... old, but seriously, he’d be perfect! He’s more than capable to act like a total jack ass then turn on his charming smile seconds later. We’ve seen him pull off horrible fashion choices in Witch Amusement (the holy pink shirt, anyone?) and gosh, his smile is killer.

Rui Hanazawa (Hua Ze Lei)
played by Shun Oguri, Vic Zhou
TOP

Rui is tricky. He’s the cool one in that he’s distant and silent, but the only reason he’s distant and silent is because he’s socially awkward. He doesn’t understand people and often doesn’t understand himself. He views the world differently than others and does things that only he himself understands. TOP would be an awesome Rui, for sure. He’s cool and awesome and makes the girls swoon but at the same time there’s a layer of awkwardness that you can’t help but love.

Akira Mimasaka (Mei Zhuo Ling)
played by Tsuyoshi Abe, Vanness Wu
Kim Jae Wook

Akira’s one of my favourite characters. Nom nom nom. He’s one of the big playboys of F4 and aims for older women but despite his play boyish ways he’s the one that really holds F4 together. He’s not afraid to remind Domyoji that “oh hai, you’re acting like an idiot”. And Kim Jae Wook. Uhhh. Do I even have to explain myself?

Soujirou Nishikado (Xi Men)
played by Shota Matsuda, Ken Zhu
Kim Jung Hoon

The other playboy of F4 and the master of tea ceremonies, Soujirou is quiet and level headed. I haven’t seen much from Kim Jung Hoon, just the part he played in Witch Amusement (yeah yeah, he’s in Goong, something I’ve yet to watch) but I think he’d play an awesome Soujirou.

Also, Domyoji’s sister should totally be Harisu, Y/Y?
