I went to Neverender and all I got was this dinky keychain

I did get a keychain, and it is dinky. Not really what I was hoping for. ...Of course I'll still be using it. :D

Tonight was the last night; tonight was amazing, glorious, wonderful. I might even venture to say they performed better than on Thursday. You'd think they'd have been tired, but was their energy and their performance ever anything less than 110%? Never, not once. And this right after a signing and acoustics show.

Speaking of which, the fucking acoustics show. No, I didn't get to go, it was only for four-day pass holders, but I sure got to stand out in the rain for two and a half hours while it went on. And you know what? It didn't matter one bit once the show started.

But first, there was preshow, which was better than Thursday's. Travis came out and played some songs from his own project, Davenport Cabinet. For one of them he brought Claudio out to play accompaniment. Somebody in the audience yelled "ROLE REVERSAL!" and Claudio was like, "Yeah, I'm gonna be in this guy's band." I actually liked the songs a lot. They were kind of soulful acoustic numbers with great guitar work, of course--I mean, it's Travis.

After that it was only about twenty minutes until the real show got underway, which I spent chatting with a girl named Dara who was standing next to me. The lights went down...in the darkness Claudio played and sang The Reaping on his own. Beautiful. Then the lights flared and the band joined in for No World for Tomorrow, everything I had hoped that song would ever be live, including all "young brothers and sisters" throwing their hands in the air for the chorus. It was absolutely glorious. I rode the high from that song all the way through the rest of the concert.

Mother Superior was the peak, as I'd hoped and prayed it would be. This song is...you have not heard Mother Superior until you've heard it live. I can't even describe it. The emotion of it, Claudio's emotion, the crowd's emotion. Don't cry, boy, not anymore, don't cry, boy / When you're sick to the stomach, just pull out the knife~ I teared up, not for the last time that evening.

I've heard Gravemakers and Gunslingers live twice now--this was the better performance. INCREDIBLE energy. logophilia is right, they do use female vocalists for that song (actually there were two girls providing backup for the whole concert). Just a fantastic song, so much fun.

The End Complete almost rivalled Mother Superior--what an AMAZING performance! As the opening chords began, Dara gripped my elbow and whispered in my ear, "This is going to be incredible." She was so, so right.

Claudio choked up at the end of The Road and the Damned (Goodbye, bye, goodbye, bye, goodbye, bye, my dear~). I did too.

I wanted the "hails" to go on forever in On the Brink. Nothing short of glorious.

The encore was Welcome Home (just as amazing live as I've always thought it must be) and, fittingly, Neverender. I teared up for the third time, and we all said goodbye.

I'll never forget it.

the 'heeeeeeeed!
