21. | Picspam: Xena/Gabrielle for femslash_land.
I bounced back on forth for days on what ship (or ships) I wanted to spam for this challenge. Should I do my top five film OTPs? Top five all-time OTPs? Jane/Maura? Ruth/Idgie? Cara/Kahlan? I have a tendency to refer to Xena/Gabrielle (or X/G, for short) as my OTP of all OTPs. They are, without a doubt, my favorite ship of all-time, femslash or otherwise. Coincidentally, of course, they are femslash, so that works out perfectly for the challenge at femslash_land. I'm running short on time, so I'm stealing some of my commentary below from an email I wrote noddy_angel a couple of years ago.
When I first got into the fandom back in January of 2008, I remember seeing a post in a community describing X/G as the greatest love story ever told on television. And, in my head, as I didn't actually join in on the discussion, I disagreed. I mean, Mulder/Scully (MSR) had always been that to me, so I couldn't concur. But... it wasn't long after that I found myself proven wrong. The more I watched, read, and learned about them, the more it became increasingly clear that, though, I immediately drew parallels between X/G and Cordy/Angel (C/A) and X/G and MSR, Xena and Gabrielle are in a class all by themselves.
They're soulmates and the fact that they're destined to be together in EVERY lifetime, in whatever form (be it male or female) they're in is amazing. Katherine Fugate, whom I adore and fangirl like it's my job, once said, "I think we touched people, and it was multifaceted with all the spiritual components as well as the love. But the love was so intense, and 'We'll find each other in any lifetime,' I think, is profound. I don't know many shows that say that, period, heterosexual or homosexual."
Xena/Gabrielle, Mel/Janice, Dar/Kerry... I LOVE THEM IN EVERY INCARNATION. To put it simply, their love is EPIC. ♥
