Title: You Creep In Like A Whisper, It's True
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers for "Desecrated" (02x16).
Prompt: Friend.
Other notes: Cara/Kahlan friendship. 146 words. Title from "Amazed" by Poe.
Kahlan just had to mention it; of course she did. She enjoyed discussing her feelings and Cara's years of training had stifled that desire many times over.
Still Kahlan brought it up, what Cara had said to her back in the tomb when she thought their deaths were imminent. Or, her own death, anyway; she had tried, quite valiantly, to sacrifice herself to give Kahlan more much-needed air, but the Confessor would have none of it. Why couldn't she see that her life -- the Mother Confessor's life -- was more valuable than a lone Mord'Sith's?
Nevertheless, despite the excuse and brush-off she's just given Kahlan, she'd truly meant what she'd said. Somehow, in spite of everything, they'd grown extremely close while searching for the elusive Stone Of Tears and through Richard's regular detours to save farm animals and helpless peasants alike.
Yes, she'd let Kahlan in.
They were friends.
Title: A Tangled Mess Divine
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers for "Wizard" (02x05).
Prompt: Coincidence.
Other notes: 130 words. Title from "Buried In Teeth" by Mariee Sioux.
Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, Wizard Of The First Order, didn't believe in coincidences.
Years of experience had taught him that there was usually someone or something behind what might seem, to some, an innocuous or even fortuitous occurrence. Zedd, however, knew there were greater forces at work. And they were usually backed by powerful magic. Of course, sometimes there was prophecy involved, but more often than not? It was magic. And where there was magic, there was often Shota.
Ahh, Shota. That woman always had an agenda and a number of tricks up her sleeve. Knowing this, he had grown wary of her, especially after that... incident involving a persimmon nearly a summer ago.
Yes, she was meddling and usually behind whatever scheme they'd somehow stumbled into on their journey.
This time was no exception.
Title: A Thousand Words And None Of Them That I Can Say Out Loud

Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers for "Extinction" (02x19).
Prompt: Joy.
Other notes: 141 words. Title from "Thousand" by Trespassers William. Gifs by

"I wish you could have been there."
Cara smiled and Kahlan let out the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding.
The smile widened and Kahlan's stomach fluttered. The Mord'Sith simply radiated joy and it was such a rare occurrence that it took the Confessor by surprise at how viscerally it affected her.
"It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen." Kahlan could've sworn Cara's eyes darted suggestively down her form before she turned to head back in the direction they'd come, but perhaps she'd imagined it?
Kahlan swallowed. And you... are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, Cara. Much to her own surprise, the words had been on the tip of her tongue. Instead, she held it.
She remained silent, but with a smile ghosting her lips and a bounce in her step, she moved swiftly to catch up with the blonde.
Title: There're Pieces Of Me You've Never Seen
Rating: PG
Warnings: n/a
Prompt: Books.
Other notes: 194 words. Title from "Tear In Your Hand" by Tori Amos.
As a child, it was not at all uncommon to find Cara Mason with her nose buried in a book.
Her father taught her to read when she was four and from then on, any free moment in which she wasn't sleeping, doing her schoolwork or chores, or playing with Grace or Dahlia, she was uncovering mysteries and traveling to faraway lands in her imagination.
Of course, when she was captured, her life changed irrevocably and reading for pleasure was soon a thing of the past. During her training and the years following, as she faithfully served the Lord Rahl, her favorite former pastime seemed like another lifetime ago.
Now, nearly a summer after they'd returned to Aydindril, and the Mother Confessor had ordered her friend to take the day off, she found herself wandering through the largest and most comprehensive library she'd ever seen. Finding a book that caught her eye, she settled down at a desk and quickly lost herself within its pages.
When Richard stumbled across her several candlemarks later, he called her name twice before he caught her attention.
At his curious look, she stiffened slightly before responding, "What? Mord'Sith can read, too, you know."
Title: The Heart That Beats Is Yours Inside Me
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers for "Eternity" (02x20).
Prompt: Memory, Quest.
Other notes: Hints of Cara/Dahlia. 156 words. Title from "Faithfully Dangerous" by Over The Rhine.
As she turned Cara back over to Lord Rahl, she quickly exited the room and unconsciously rubbed the still-throbbing spot on her forehead where Cara had head-butted her half a candlemark before. She'd have a bruise there later, she was sure of it.
Cara may have forgotten their connection, but Dahlia never had. No, their pasts were woven together so tightly, not unlike their clutching hands as children, that it was impossible to imagine her life without Cara by her side.
"Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd are my family," Cara had taunted when Dahlia had attempted to remind her of this fact.
Ha! The Seeker and his merry band had obviously brainwashed her. But, no matter, the Lord Rahl would find a way to get through to her. Things could return to the way they were, how they'd been for years before Triana's betrayal, and that was all that mattered to Dahlia right now.
She'd get Cara back. She had to.
