I haven't posted pictures of my Martha Stewart cake yet...so here it is. My first Dobos Torte:
These are the 3 cakes that I split into thirds - 9 total layers.
Making caramel on the stove.
I took the caramel and made dots and lines to decorate the cake.
This is the crumb coat - it does exactly what it sounds like...it keeps the crumbs in. You do this and let it dry a bit so that you don't have crumbs in your final layer of frosting.
Here is the frosted cake.
The final version, with the dots and lines attached.
Top of the cake.
Side of the cake.
This is the insdie of the cake...9 layers total, with chocolate swiss meringue buttercream on the outside, and a lightened version (whipped cream added) on the inside.
It took a long time, but it was worth it. My next purchase is going to be the $3 cake leveler from Wilton so I don't have to make all the layers by hand next time.
