today is sunny. wow.
yesterday i had a good time. a few of us went to breakfast at vita in the morning, later marabeth made delicious spinach lasagna.
on my birthday, my grandpa chuck called me and sang happy birthday in his smoker's, ex trucker's voice. he was the only relative who called me for my birthday and/or christmas - he's not even a blood relative (he's my mother's mother's ex husband). when i was a preteen i use to go fishing with him because i was the only kiddo who would in our family. until my brothers were born, he had nothing but granddaughters.
another family that i babysit for on the side gave me a birthday / christmas present, which they delivered to my door when i wasn't home. it was a regal gift pack with $30 in gift cards, 4 candy canes and 2 christmas ornaments in a plastic popcorn box with cellophane wrapping. on the outside was a card that the little 5-yr-old girl of the family made, complete with her school photo taped in the middle. very cute. when the mom, amy, had called to let me know she as dropping something off for me, it suddenly made sense why she had abruptly asked me a couple weeks ago if i was jewish.
i also talked to another lady i babysit for and use to live next door to, michelle, for a long time on the phone the day before my birthday. i feel like i should mention this to explain that i love that woman and her family. her and her husband always call me to chat it up and make sure things are going ok, i think i sort of view them as surrogate parents, especially since we use to live next door to each other. one things is for sure, her and george have nurtured me more, have been more concerned about me, checked up on me more, looked out for me more, called me more, spent more time with me and made me feel more loved in the last 2 years than either of my parents have in at least 8 years. calling it 8 years is being generous, really. so when i get a bit depressed that my parents are complete failures (which is often around the holidays and such), i am at least thankful that i have george and michelle in my life and that the relationships that i have with other families i babysit for are becoming more and more like that too.
last night danny drove me to john's with his computer speakers. i set them all up (which included rearranging some of his furniture for an optimal listening experience) and i, uh, tested them out last night and this morning. they are awesome. danny and i sat and chatted for a bit, but when we were going to leave, i just couldn't bring myself to. poor danny had to drive back to our house alone and i stayed here for the night.
this morning i cleaned up john's apartment a bit (if i am rearranging things, i might as well do some dished and stuff too, right?) and i am playing some
puzzle pirates and
civ 4 before i go to meet john at the airport at 3:30. i am so excited he'll be home tonight! i am also excited to see what my last gift is!
