On Structured Sponteneity

The University of Chicago Scavenger Hunt, known to the participants as ScavHunt or simply Scav, is a massive 4 day undertaking by the undergraduates of one of the United States premier academic institutions. During Scav the undergraduate population, usually confined by an intense and rigorous curriculum, explodes in an orgy of artistry, creativity, engineering, and performance.

But even this creativity is rigorously defined by a list. A list of nearly 300 items, ranging from advanced robotic engineering, to writing in obscure languages, to trips to far-ranging tourist destinations, but a limited list nonetheless. The question is how these limits affect the heights we obtain and whether the remarkable achievements of the current Hunt form would be paled by a free-form, unlisted festival of talents.

Also, an announcement: Mama Shaq, Mama Shaq, Shaq's your mom, that's a fact!
