On Tuesday, the snow began to melt, but of course, there was still plenty of ice under the melted snow, so guess who fell down twice in a hundred-metre distance? Yes, yours truly. It's pathetic: I really need a pony-drawn sleigh. On Wednesday, I had to spent an HOUR digging my car out of the half-melted snow and guess what happened not three hours later? MORE SNOW. I AM BEING MOCKED BY INANIMATE OBJECTS. But hey, all was well because the weather forecast said something about +6°C over the holidays, so I didn't really think there was a problem getting to my family's place today. Well...
Thursday evening, 21.46:
Phone call, Lytton and J:
J: "Hey, I don't think we can do our Christmas Eve breakfast because I don't want you driving."
Me: "Whut?"
J: "You haven't looked out the window, have you?"
Friday morning, 8.13:
Texts, Lytton and J:
Me: "Umm, taking the train to my mum's. I can't even see the street."
J: "80 cm worth of snowdrift on my balcony. MONSTROUS!"
Friday morning, 8.27:
Phone call, Lytton and Lyttonmother.
Me: "Mum, I'm taking the train."
Mother: "Okay, honey. But you do know that inner-city public transport in Essen has been suspended until further notice beceause of the snow, right?"
Me: ...
Friday morning, 8.31:
Phone call, Lytton and Lyttonfather:
Me: "Yeah, I'm going to mum's with the train, don't know how that's working out, but well, we'll see, right?"
Father: "Sweetie, I'll have to call you back. We're snowed in, I can't get the car out of the garage."
Me: ...
Friday morning, 10.11:
Phone call, Lytton, the littlest nephew, Lyttonsister:
Nephew: (shouts into the phone) "HELLO AUNTIE!"
Me: "Hi dearie."
Sister in the background: "Ask Auntie when she'll be here."
Nephew: "WHEN WILL YOU BE HERE, AUNTIE? SOON?"
Sister in the background: "Honey, you don't have to shout, Auntie L can hear you."
Me: "I'll be there... soon?"
NEPHEW: "OKAY."
(line goes dead)
Dear all: I am off now, I don't yet know how I am getting to my mum's, but these things work themselves out, don't they, and I ONLY HAVE A SUITCASE FULL OF PRESENTS, A BACKPACK FULL OF JAM AND A BAG FULL OF BOOKS TO CARRY. (And let's not forget the cake.)
Happy holidays! :)
Lots of love, Lytton
