Grief Counseling

Sep 29, 2008 16:29

A member of the office staff at Skyline High passed away over the weekend. Ms. Burns was well loved by students and staff alike. The school district contacted my agency to see if we could offer grief counseling to the students and staff. SInce I was already at the school supporting our class there, I got tasked with the job. Initially, I was anxious and resistant cuz I haven't done much grief work and worried that my own grief issues might get triggered. But I agreed, I didn't really have a choice. The first girl who came in to see me was so cool. She talked about how it was hard for her to cry in front of others and how this reminded her about when her great-grandmother died and that her grandmother is 97 and will die soon and her father is in bad health and had had 4 heart attacks. She just kept saying "This sucks." over and over. And then she looked up and said "You know why this REALLY sucks?" She didn't miss a beat. "Because its one less vote for Obama." Too true. Too true.
