I found my rough draft for a peice of micro fiction I wrote for Cooksey's class a long time ago. I dont think I ever posted it on here. So, while I have time to kill, I will go ahead and post it.

The Cardboard Queen
By Jamie Houston

My mother left us before my memory came into play, so she's kinda like a fairy tale to me. When I was five I remember thinking she was a queen, and the only reason she had left us was so she could go rule her kingdom. Poppa encouraged it, I guessed he hoped it would make my childhood more bearable. He would do anything to keep all seven of us happy.

I would often dress up in a cardboard box and old linens, pretending it was a grand ball gown that I would wear when I saw my mother again. My tiara was an old dish and my scepter was a toilet brush gathered from the dumps. My brothers would parade with their swords made out of paper towel rolls shouting, "Make way for Princess May!"

Joe, my youngest brother, would usually be playing the role of my many subjects and cheer to my knights and I throwing dandelions shouting "Long live the Princess!" The sound of our laughter could be heard ten blocks down.
