Meme: Anime Challenge Day 24 - Favorite anime hero or heroine

In this meme category, to qualify as a hero or heroine (as opposed to being just the protagonist) the character must perform heroic actions - at least, that’s the assertion I’ve made to help narrow the field. For a long time, Noriko Takaya from Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster was the top heroine. (pun!) But now my favorite is Homura Akemi from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I think nearly everything Homura did was heroic.
